After 46 years of supporting students, we are sorry to report that Birmingham Nightline will be closing down. This incredibly difficult decision has been made with the best interest of our volunteers and contacts in mind, and follows a long period of difficulty for the service spanning the last few years. Since being separated from the University of Birmingham's Guild of Students in 2020, Birmingham Nightline has fought to remain open as an independent charity, but this has unfortunately become unsustainable, and we no longer hold the capacity to run a reliable service.
We at Birmingham Nightline have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to support our fellow students, and we have seen for ourselves how critical mental health support for students is. We know that accessing this support can be hard, so we want to thank all of you who have contacted or otherwise supported us over the years. The bravery our contacts showed in opening up to us encouraged us to keep going for as long as we could, and we wish we could stay around to lend an ear to even more of you.
Thank you to every wonderful individual who has ever volunteered their time to make Birmingham Nightline what it was. You have all helped to build, maintain and run a service that saved lives, and for that, we are incredibly grateful. The amount of effort and kindness given to Birmingham Nightline over the years has been astronomical, and we wouldn't have gotten nearly as far as we did without your incredible dedication to helping others.
Take care π

By focusing on our breathing it can help us to feel more relaxed when in a moment of panic. The box breathing exercise can be done anywhere at anytime without anyone around you being aware.
