Worcestershire Squash League
Hereford 1 vs Barnt Green 1
You can always identify the stalwarts of the club on a cold autumn Wednesday night and there’s a match away to Hereford.
Tonight our crusaders battled the wind, the snow and the sleet to cross the border to the land of orange cows with horns.
Hereford are a strong side, and they should be; brought up pulling ploughs with their bare teeth and fighting wild boars bare knuckle in the woods.
Tonight was tough.
At 5 Chris had a tight match going down 3-1.
Mike followed at no. 4 playing a wily old England vet. Experience played its hand in this match, Mike went down 3-1.
Up steps Sir Richard Grainger bringing forth hope and inspiration worthy of a JFK election rally. But alas even the great Sir Richard couldn’t lay down a foundation for the team to build upon, losing finally 3-1.
So it was Jamie’s turn at no.2 to bring a semblance of respectability to the club and for a moment there was a tight battle that ensued….but only for a moment. With a few lost game balls in hand, he still managed to lose 3-0.
So it was left to John at 1 to deliver the points against a young opponent straight from the SAS base close by! Suffice to say John played against a level of fitness rarely seen and despite a tough battle went down 3-1.
Despite the 5-0 score line Barnt Green had a tough battle and put in a strong display.
With 5 losers this week, there is no man-of-the-match, though Jamie, with his 5 game balls lost, throwing away the chance to change the match goes down as Donkey of the Week - go home Jamie, eat your carrots and hold your head in shame!
What have we learnt this week?
A selenophile is someone who loves, admires, or feels a deep fascination with the Moon. It’s not someone who loves Selena Gomez or selenium.
These are things you learn on a 3 hour round trip to a far off land. Educational, informational, sensational!
