What a fantastic weekend at The Big Dig 2026 in Kent! 🔎

We loved catching up with so many like minded detectorists. We enjoyed chatting about your bucket listers, sharing advice on machines, and hearing some genuinely nice stories.

We also had the team from Garrett with us, and their test pit was popular showcasing the Garrett Vortex! See you at the next one! 👋🏻

You’ve met Keith, now meet Gillian 👋

You’ve heard about Keith’s incredible detecting journey, from his first gold find and the six rare Iron Age gold staters.

But these days, he’s not detecting alone.

Gillian is now out in the fields too. After Keith gave her some advice, she watched his YouTube videos, saw the finds in his cabinet and eventually decided to take up the hobby herself.

She’s already made some fantastic discoveries of her own, including a stunning medieval Philip “The Bold” gold noble dating from 1384–1404.

The pair now regularly head out detecting together, putting their XP Deus and XP Deus II through their paces and sharing their finds, tips and detecting adventures along the way.

🪙 Six Iron Age gold coins. One incredible find.

Last week we introduced Keith Brown and his metal detecting story. It didn’t end with the discovery of his gold Ram’s Head brooch…

Just six weeks later, in another part of Dorset, his trusty XP Deus uncovered a scattered hoard of six extremely rare Iron Age gold staters.

Described by numismatist John Sills as “probably the earliest British Gold Coinage”, these remarkable coins were declared Treasure and went through the lengthy Treasure process.

The outcome? The Iron Age gold staters were acquired by Dorset Museum in Dorchester, where they can be preserved for future generations.
