It is with immense sadness we announce that John Shakespeare passed away on Thursday 6th April at the age of 78. This news is sudden and unexpected.

John joined Walmley Golf Club in 1994 and was Captain in 2006. He sat on various committees and was Administration Director and Club Secretary for many years until the AGM in February 2023. He had a heart of gold and it was his mission in life to help others. His commitment to Walmley Golf Club was second to none and we will miss his enthusiasm, positive attitude and his ability to get stuck into anything that was needed. At the AGM in February there were tributes from the Chairman and how John was pivotal in shaping the Club. Not only have we lost his vast knowledge and counsel, we have lost a genuine and loyal friend. We will have many happy memories.

He was looking forward to his retirement from the Board – spending more time with his wife Sue and his family, moving house and getting back to playing golf once his dodgy ankle had recovered.

His many friends at Walmley are devastated that his plans have been cut short and our thoughts are with Sue and his family at this very difficult time. We continue to support her through this ordeal.

We will share details about funeral arrangements in due course and the Walmley flag will fly at half mast until after his funeral.

Walmley Golf Club once again take the lead. Selected to host the Commonwealth Games relay team members & staff welcomed 40 runners & organisers to their club as the baton traveled across the Royal Town.
