Wednesbury Sports Union FC Adults

WSU mens open age, Saturday afternoon football team are after players in all positions.

We play in the Birmingham AFA, Saturday afternoons.

We entered this game not knowing how it was going to play out, village C are a very good team and we had a completely different squad going into this game than what we normally do.

But from the moment the whistle blew the lads took control of the game, they were pressing high, keeping compact and playing some really nice football, we went up 1-0 after a great strike from our man up top Marc from around 20 Yards out, the football continued to flow nicely but the lads were getting hit with challenges left right and centre and one of our midfield gets taken out they pick up the ball and with a great strike from 20 yards out ian is beat which meant we headed into half time 1-1.

Heading into the second half the lads conceded a sloppy goal early on to make it 2-1, but quickly after WSU gained one back as LB Liam whips in a corner which takes a deflection from there player and goes straight into the net!

Back evens at 2-2 now and Wednesbury are coming looking, and within 2 minutes Abu gets a goal for the boys to put us back in the lead and make it 3-2. At this point the game has slowed down a bit and village trying to pile the pressure on bringing on some good substitutes and pressing WSU hard but our defence is ontop of it and they can’t find a way through.

In the 88th minutes after some success and strong attacking play WSU gain a free kick just outside the 18 Yard box and substitute jack dean steps up to take it, and GOAL, he curls it around the wall and makes it 4-2 for the boys!

Heading into the last 5 minutes of the game and we make 2 substitutions to keep energy levels high and we continue to pile the pressure onto village c who didn’t stop all game, but heading into the last attack of the game our substitution Saikou wins the ball back from there defender, runs towards goal all on his own takes the keeper on in a 1v1 and scores a last minute goal to make it 5-2 and just after that the ref blows for full time!

From start to finish today the Wednesbury boys played great football, played as a complete team and were all on the same page both going forward and defending!

Arden 6 - 4 WSU
Not a lot to say about today's game, very poor from start to finish.
Mentality all wrong, attitude wrong, effort and application wrong. To say this week was a far cry from the previous 2 weeks performances would be an understatement.
After going 1-0 up it looked like we could easily have gone and got 2/3 more, but instead we make silly mistakes, not track runners and before we know it, we're level.
A lot to work on, on and off the pitch and the lads need to start taking more accountability and responsibility if we're to do anything good as a team this season. We use today as a learning curve and move on.

For me it was out of a couple players today but it's going to Rob Kidd. Swept up very well, won a lot of headers and was one of a few looking to play.

Next up in the league! Arden Forest! The lads are hoping to come away with another 3 points and keep there momentum going! UP THE WSU!

After a poor start to the league campaign the boys looked to carry on the momentum from a good win in the cup last week.

The game started pretty sloppy with neither team really getting a foothold on the game, but after a little while we started to find our rhythm. Our first game came from a nice short throw in routine. The ball went back to our LB Liam Harvey who put in an inch perfect cross straight onto the head of in form new signing Tekz to get his 4th goal in 3 games which took us into half time 1-0 up.

The 2nd half started as the 1st ended, with the WSU boys on top and we started to play some nice football playing through the thirds. The back 4 solid throughout the game and as is the case most weeks a lot of our attacks start from the defence playing out with confidence. Our 2nd goal of the day came once again from Tekz. Some brilliant closing down in numbers ended with Tekz stealing the ball and going on a solo run which started just inside their half and finished with the composure we've come to expect from him, bringing his tally to 5 goals in 3 games!! Game finishing 2-0.

Our MOTM this week goes to none other than Shane Tandy. This season he has been forced back into the back line to cover for absence. He has been playing really well and today was his most assured and dominating display at RB since playing there. Top lad who's started the season with a great attitude 💪

Back to league action and hoping to get 3 points on the board and make our way up the table! UP THE WSU!

After 2 defeats in the league the lads looked to build momentum in the intermediate cup and that’s exactly what the did, strong performance from start to end and some great football played! Time to take this into the league next week! UP THE WSU!!

First cup game of the new season as we face Crusaders! Short on numbers today so the lads are hoping to pull this out the bag! UP THE WSU!
