Maypole Liononesses today played Leafield Athletic at home in the league.

With many competitive battles with leafield I recent times this was always going to be a testing game.

Before the game both teams showed a mark of respect for the tragic passing of young Leo Ross. It was fitting we was playing leafield today as both team train at Chrischurch Academy, Leo’s school. The minutes respect was beautifully observed by both sets of players staff and parents ❀️

The game started and Leafield started the far better, there passing game flowed and there star player was very dangerous up top. We was struggling to deal with her a last ditch tackle from Lacey and super stop from the returning Eloise kept us at 0-0.

Leafield continually pressed but some excellent interceptions from both Jessica and Thalia who both continue to look better and better each week kept us in it.

As the half wore on we slowly began to come in to the game. Some great battling from Athena set Molly away from brilliantly beat two players and almost set up the opener with a brilliant cross.

Just before half time Edith latched on to a lose ball and fired home from the edge of the box.

The half time whistle went and after a good chat at half time the girls were ent out for the second half and really raised her game.

Athena was a menance down the right and Belles really caused problems down the left with her pace and skill constantly bringing us forward and created chances down the flank.

Lily moved in to centre midfield and was excellent, winning ball after ball and bringing us forward, she looked very good in that role.

We managed to grab a second as Roxy pounced on to a lose ball and score a poachers goal.

A couple more poacher goals follows and and a supurb finish from Edith smashing the ball home put us out of site and a late own goal ended proceedings.

Really good performance from the girls, a good mornings work πŸ‘πŸ»

Maypole Liononesses began the year with a tough challenge against Coventry Sphinx

The girls had been moved up to the top league and some really big games await.

Both team come out the traps early and Maypole created the first real chance with Lily finding some space and her well angled shot from the edge of the box was well saved by the keeper.

Lacey deputising in goal today was out to make a smart early stop.

Coventey pushed forward and soon scored a couple of quick goals.

Coventry kept the pressure on but Jessica, Thalia and Frankie wer excellent at the back constantly winning balls and and stopping danger

Lacey had to be replaced in goal due to an injury and Frankie took the reins doing a great job.

Belles covered at the back due to the loss of frankie and got stuck in winning some great interceptions and bringing us forward.

Some great link up play soon got us back in the game.

Athena won possession in midfield and got the ball to Edith who found Roxy, a brilliant one two with Lily played Roxy through who finished with an excellent low strike !!

Molly got hold of the ball and started to make us tick and come close to playing us in on a few occasions.

Against the run of play coventry scored again and a few more times towards the end.

Roxy did finish well for her second of the day.

We suffered another goalkeeper injury towards the end and Roxy went in for the last few minutes.

Big shout out to the girls today.

A very tough test v an excellent side.

Maypole Liononesses today ended the year away to Haunchwood.

The girls have had an excellent half a season and ended the year in fine form.

For development purposes and the increase to 9aside next season we agreed a 9aside game.

The game started and Maypole started sharply with Lacey and Edith both firing home within the first 2 minutes after excellent work from Molly and Belles.

Maypole kept up excellent pressure and Athena fired home an excellent long range strike mid way in the second half.

Haunchwood had there moments getting forward but Jess, Frankie and Thalia mopped up any pressure and kept the ball away from our goal.

Roxy, Lily and β€œNew Lacey” come off the bench in the first half and contributed to a well taken goal.

Roxy won possession and great play between Molly and Lily put the ball on a plate for Lacey to slide home another.

The second half began and due to injury unfortunately Belles couldn’t carry on.

β€œNew Lacey” grew in to the game more and more and worked well with Lily down the right hand side.

Athena won a lot of balls in the middle and got us moving forward.

Goal of the match was next, some excellent passing between the Lacey’s, Lily and Edith put the ball on a plate for Molly to score.

Molly was to find the net again shortly later.

For the last 12 minutes or so Eloise moved up front and really got stuck in to the play.

Molly was trying to tee Eloise up for a goal but Haunchwood defended well.

We saw the remainder of the game out and ended the year with another great win.

Maypole lionesses today played Alvechurch at home in our final home fixture in the yellow league.

The girls have been promoted to the red league due to a stunning run of results in the yellow league and this continued today.

The girls started strongly and put Alvechurch on the back foot. Athena was excellent down the right and worked hard to get some crosses in the box.

Edith was sharp in attack and come close to scoring on a couple of occasions.

Roxy and Molly bossed the midfield and Thalia and Frankie both played well and mopped up everything at the back.

Eloise had to be alert to stop a couple of Alvechurch attacks.

Mid way through the first half Belles and Lacey come off the bench and made an instant impact towards the end of the half.

Belles won possession and found Molly who played Lacey in who fired home.

The girls went in a goal in front.

The second half was just like second halfs have been in recent weeks with the girls relentless with shot after shot at goal.

It didn’t take long for Maypole to extend there league.

A mistake from Alvechurch played Lacey through who fired home for the 23rd time in Maypole colours.

Roxy soon went on an excellent run and smashed a goal in from around the half way line similar to the goal she scored on her Crusaders debut back in August 2023

Goal of the match was next. Thalia found Edith who played it to Lacey, brilliant hold up play from Lacey teed up Belles who burried a first time finish in the top corner.

Athena had a surging run and went close to scoring not long after. Molly was excellent and twice come close to scoring.

Edith and Belles found more goals and the girls finished the game commanding winners.

Frankie come close to adding a late goal but the ball just ran away from her.

A quieter game for Eloise but there will be plenty of work to do very soon in the red league 🧀

8 wins from 8 in the yellow league, excellent achievement πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

Maypole Liononesses today played Redditch Borough at home.

This was always going to be a challenging game, especially with the fact Reffitch had 3 boy players in there squad πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

We treacle the team as we are really trying to insure the girls are getting as much game time as possible.

The game starts fairly even with Maypole pushing forward but Redditch quick on the counter.

Eloise was alert on a few occasions to made some good saves in the first half, some saves being double stops.

We picked up the pace in the first half and Molly playing really well come close to scoring on several occasions and had an effort which looked over the line but unfortunately wasn’t given.

The pressure finally told as Roxy and Lily battled hard to win possession and Edith managed to poke home from a goal line scramble.

We went in 1-0 up at half time.

The second half we really picked up the pace. Athena looked dangerous down the right firing shots of and putting some excellent crosses in.

Lacey, Frankie and Thalia really controlled the defence and marked there dangerous striker out the game.

Jess was excellent and unlucky not to score hitting the post.

We pressed and pressed second half hitting the post on several occasions and having a supurb goalkeeper stop over everything.

The game looked like it would end with one goal but in the final minute a brilliant move from our own goal involving Eloise, Molly and Athena created a dangerous ball in the box which Edith smashed home to finish the game off.

Another tough but good run out from the girls and another clean sheet 😁

Cold and wet one this morning β˜”οΈπŸŒ§οΈ

Maypole Liononesses today played Knowle Spitfires in a very wet encounter.

We reversed the fixture due to the poor weather so we was the away team, at home 😁

The game began and Lnowle started sharp, pushing us back and forcing a early save from Eloise

Thalia and Jessica wer both sharp in defence to stop Knowle making more chances and we began to grown in to the game

Some lovely one touch football from Molly and lacey creates a chance for Roxy who just fired wide

Belles was sharp down the left and excellent at tracking back to keep the pressure on

We found our way through soon after as Molly fired a supurb long range effort home.

Minutes later Jessica forced us forward and won a corner to which Molly crossed in and found the ball sliced in there knowle net by there defender

In the second half Knowle began to press but Frankie and Lacey defended excellent to mop everything up.

We really put the pressure on second half.
Athena was sharp down the right and won numerous balls and come close to scoring a few times.

Roxy fired home and also come close to more goals but for an excellent performance from the Knowle keeper.

Belles was unlucky not to get on the end of a Thalia pass after a great run.

Lily was supurb up front, held the ball up so well and brought players in to the game. She was also unlucky not to score.

Eloise made a couple of excellent saves before knowle got a consolation goal at the end.

The girls went on to win again, another great performance in challenging conditions πŸ‘πŸ»
