Deer People

Ian MacGillivray is the greatest living painter of red deer in their highland habitat, according to our managing director. “He may, in fact, be the best of all time”, says Trigger. Ian’s art is put to work in a new book called ‘Deer People’, helping this small but beautifully crafted project raise awareness of the current state of deer management in Scotland, by showcasing the lives of people who have dedicated their careers to the betterment of the highlands in general and, specifically, their wonderful herds of native red deer.

A Distinctively English 28 Bore

A small-bore sh***un, with hand-detachable locks, uniquely engraved and of ‘Modèle de Luxe’ quality has all the hallmarks of another order from an American collector. This incredible gun, however, was commissioned by a family from the North East of England, for a lucky gentleman in anticipation of his sixtieth birthday. The specifications speak of a proper game shooter’s twenty-eight bore, made to adult dimensions for driven game shooting.

Numbering amongst the antique books on the shelves at Westley Richards in Birmingham is a well-worn volume bearing a red label on the front cover with the name ‘Mr. Westley Richards’. An internal paper label shows it to have been purchased from J. Kirton’s General Stationery Warehouse in Cavendish Square, London.
