TONIGHT we welcome a full moon. The second full moon in the calendar month of may, making it a blue moon. Scientifically we know the moon isn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. It will not be blue in colour. Simply following it’s 29.5 day cycle as it always has. However, for a brief moment, nature's clock overlaps with our human calendar.

We all know the phrase ‘Once in a Blue Moon’, referring to something rare, unusual, seldom or infrequent.  And that's because, this cosmically coincidental event only happens every 2-3 years, presenting us with a rare opportunity. A bonus round. A cosmic second chance. A celestial reset button.

Western science supports the idea that the phases of the moon can affect our energy levels.
Our bodies, after all, are over 70% water, and this alone makes us receptive to the gravitational pull of the moon, just like the tides of the ocean.

See your yoga practice as an opportunity to press reset, not trying to match or keep up with anyone, even yourself from previous practices or phases of life.

This could also be an opportunity to perhaps explore postures or styles of yoga that are more rare or new for you, broadening your scope of practice to navigate and realign your inner tides.

Using this phase of peak illumination to discern the energy and quality you need from your practice.  If you’re feeling the pull to rest and restore, let this be your bonus round to listen and slow down.
If your body is asking to move, flow and release like the ocean tides, allow yourself to lean into that fullness.
Knowing you have full permission to change with every moment, every breath, adapting the shapes to embody how you want your practice to shine, expand and fill your daily life.
All under the rare, wise and heedful glow of the full blue moon.

Just the birds and the bowls 🤍

MAY 🌸 A month of quiet momentum in nature. Blossoms give way to fresh green leaves, trees fill out their canopies, and longer days stretch light into the evenings. Birds are busy building nests, bees move with purpose from flower to flower. Pollinators, plants, sunshine and rain all work together to create a sense of steady expansion and vitality. Nothing feels rushed, yet everything is in motion. Growing, strengthening and becoming without hesitation.

This sense of steadiness, connection and confidence invites us to move beyond beginnings, towards commitment. To nurture what we’ve already started rather than continually seeking something new.

A time to foster trust both in ourselves and others. To stop overthinking and start embodying what we’ve been preparing for. To shift from figuring it out to living it out. From planning to participating. To prioritise growth over perfection in ourselves, lives relationships or the wider ecosystem of community. And, like the trees deepening their roots and extending their branches, to focus on consistency, patience, and quiet progress.

What is your garden showing you this month? 🌸

TONIGHT is May's full moon, named 'Flower Moon', marking the beautiful time of year when flowers bloom and flourish 🌼

According to folklore, the period of the full Moon is the best time for pruning, tending, nurturing, and planting seeds in the rich, fertile soil.  So the message we receive from the full Flower Moon is that, just as a gardener understands their flowers, we also need to take the time to understand what nourishes, grounds and sustains us so that we can grow and flourish.

The eight limbs of yoga encourages this journey of understanding with the practice of Svadhyaya, meaning self study. Yoga offers us the time and space to better know and understand ourselves. Breath, meditation, mindful movement and being in a community with others all bring growth and reflection.

Over the next few days, use your yoga practice as a chance to tend, nurture and feed your true self. Along the way perhaps even planting new seeds of growth, self care and mindfulness by exploring new postures or breath practices, guided by the whispering wisdom of Svadhyaya and the radiant beacon of the moon 🌕

Move slowly and mindfully, taking the time to smell the roses… absorbing the benefit of each posture, movement and breath. Enquiring into sensations, emotions and energy levels, with the understanding that it's all connected.

This practice of self study can eventually help you better understand how to tend, nurture, prune and grow every aspect of you, your yoga practice and your daily life. Regularly take the time to step back and appreciate your beauty as you bloom and flourish through your own seasons and phases.
