Back to back πŸ’ͺ

Ward End 1s made it 2 wins from 2 in the league with another exciting run chase against Moseley. 3 wickets in the first 5 overs from opening bowlers Ansar Hussain and Nadeem Akram got Ward End off to a flier, and at 72-5 Moseley looked to be in a spot of bother. But some lower order resistance saw them up to a respectable 172 all out. This was not before Ward End skipper Babar Zaman continued his blistering start to the season with the ball, returning 4-22 from his 10. He bowled tightly and with control, and took wickets at just the right times.

The chase got off to the worst possible start, with Ward End 2 wickets down inside the first over. But opener Aarib Khan showed his class to notch a run-a-ball 50 and counter attack a strong bowling lineup. At 80-5 the game was in the balance, but new signing Musa Hassan picked up where he left off last week to blast his way to 69 runs. A game winning and very entertaining knock from Musa saw us close, before a late flurry of wickets set up a nervy finish. But last weeks hero Adnan Jahan was on hand to knock off the remaining runs and see Ward End over the line.

Opening weekend win βœ…

Ward End Unity returned to action with a nail-biting 1-wicket victory against a strong Wishaw side. Winning the toss and bowling first proved to be a good decision as Wishaw were bowled out for 183, led ably by Skipper Babar Zaman. Babar, fresh home from his England Indoor National side duties, returned 4-30 from his 10 overs and was the spearhead of the Ward End attack.

In reply, Ward End made a spectacle of what could have been modest chase and at 102-7 looked to be staring down the barrel of a defeat. However a valiant 60* from Adnan Jahan was enough to see Ward End over the line to claim the win. AJ was unfazed by the game situation and pulled off a fantastic knock to get the 2022 campaign started with a win.

RESULTS πŸ—’

A change in fortunes for both sides this weekend as the 1st XI fell to defeat at home to Castle Brom. A strong batting performance from Castle Brom saw them post 276-8 from their allotted overs. In response, a poor batting display from Ward End saw them collapse to 112 all out and end the run of positive recent results. Onto next weeks game away at Dorridge.

The 2nd XI picked up their first win of the season in some style, chasing down 255 away at Marston Green. 255 would always be a difficult total to chase, however a brilliant team batting performance saw Ward End take the win with a couple of overs to spare. Some useful contributions but 80 from Abdul Jamil provided the backbone of the run chase.

The 1s saw off Aston Unity in a dominant display, chasing the 89 target inside 10 overs. Opening batsman Aarib Khan carrying his bat for 72*, after skipper Babar Zaman had earlier returned 4-16 in a brilliant team bowling effort.

The 2s slow start to the season continued as they fell to defeat at Castle Bromwich. 162 all out would always be a difficult total to defend given the conditions, the total largely thanks to a brilliant 53 from Rizwan Akbar. In response Ward End were able to take 4 wickets as Castle Brom took the victory with 5 overs to spare.

RESULT πŸ—’

A fantastic result for the 1st XI who raced to a 10-wicket win against Aston Unity. After losing the toss and bowling first, a brilliant opening spell from Nadeem Akram (3-32) had Aston Unity on the back foot early on. But it was skipper Babar Zaman who joined the attack and tore through what was left of the Aston Unity line up, returning 4-16 to leave Aston Unity 89 all out.

In response, opener Aarib Khan continued his good form and wasted absolutely no time in setting about the chase. He scored a brutal 72* from just 28 balls, blasting the attack to all parts of the ground as Ward End stormed home in 9.1 overs.

RESULT πŸ—’

Another fantastic result in the T20 Cup as Ward End chase down 179 against Smethwick, for the loss of only 1 wicket, thanks to a blistering 84* from Samar Zaman and a brilliantly worked 50* from Haseeb Rehman. Into the quarter-finals! πŸπŸ†

RESULTS πŸ—’

The 1s continued their good form despite making very tough work of chasing 189 away at Leamington Khalsa. A flurry of late wickets left the game teetering on the edge, with 9 required and 1 wicket in hand. But Nadeem Akram held his nerve to see Ward End home!

The 2s are still searching for that first win of the season after collecting a losing draw against Aston Unity. Chasing 267 to win would always be a difficult ask, and a brilliant 81 from Lewis Atkinson kept Ward End interested. But after the loss of late wickets the boys held out for the losing draw.

The 1s win a nail-biter at Leamington Khalsa after making hard work of chasing 188. But they come away with a 1-wicket win! 🏏
