The team headed to the 2026 Scottish Championships at Grampian Kart Club this past weekend, fielding a strong 10-driver line-up, including a couple of new faces.

Lewis Reid returned to the team and secured an excellent podium finish on his first visit to the Grampian circuit – a fantastic result.

In Rotax 177, Stewart McLennan and Chris Waddell finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. While they were just missing the pace needed to challenge for the win, it was still a great result for the team.

In the Senior Max class, we fell short of the podium after a scrappy start allowed the front runners to break away early. Although the final results didn’t reflect the pace many of our drivers showed throughout the weekend, there were still plenty of strong performances to take away.

Next up, a few of the team head south to Shenington for another round of the Kart Championships this weekend.

🏁 Kart Championship – Round 4 🏁

The team heads to Rowrah this weekend for Round 4 of the championship.

Following productive pre-race testing and encouraging results from previous visits to the circuit, we’re confident of challenging for some strong results across the classes.

A great weekend at Round 1 of the ASKC Championships at NSKC, with the team showing strong pace throughout and taking both 1st and 2nd positions in the senior classes. 👏

March Recap

The team travelled to Warden Law Motorsport Centre for the opening round of The Kart Championships over the weekend of 20th–22nd, providing support for Scott McDowall, Chloe Waddell, and Zac Waddell.

Scott went into the weekend without any pre-race testing, heading straight into Friday practice. This meant learning a newly amended circuit layout while working closely with the team to fine-tune the kart setup throughout the day.

He qualified 18th overall and made solid progress in Heat 1, gaining three positions to finish 15th. Results of 19th in Heat 2, 12th in Super Heat 1, and 17th in Super Heat 2 secured him 13th on the grid for the final. Scott drove a consistent race to finish in a respectable 16th position.

Chloe entered the weekend with strong momentum following her improvements at the previous club race. Unfortunately, contact during qualifying ended her session early, leaving her 31st. She responded well with determined drives, finishing 25th and 23rd in the heats. Two impressive performances in the Super Heats saw her finish 19th in both, but she narrowly missed out on a place in the Main Final.

Zac showed strong pace from the outset and made significant improvements following setup changes. He qualified 9th and finished 7th in Heat 1. After contact in Heat 2, he recovered well to 11th. He was set to start 8th in Super Heat 1, but an engine flooding issue forced him to the back of the grid, where he fought back to 25th. A strong 7th place in Super Heat 2 meant he started 20th in the final. Despite further contact and a few mistakes, he finished 28th.

Emma Leckie competed at Golspie over the weekend, gaining further senior race experience. She delivered an outstanding performance with heat results of P3, P2, and P2. In the final, she drove an excellent race to take victory, securing her first senior win — a fantastic achievement.

Due the high popularity of this senior class at the Kart Championship, only Scott McDowall managed to get an entry for this event. Running as Dad'n'lad for this, so in as a privateer entry. But the sun is out and the improvements to the track are going to make for great racing

Christmas night out for most of the team at DRT. A bit of winter practice today for some followed by a very generous offer of the Moulsdale Foundation to have a private viewing of their amazing collection. Now for a bite to eat. It has been a fantastic first year for us as fully fledged race team, with 2 Scottish titles for the team and fantastic improvements throughout from all our racers. From all at DRT we wish all our followers and competitors a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Get ready to like and scroll past or read my drivel for the next few minutes.
DRT was started almost off of the back of a joke - a friend was buying an old kart when we first re-kindled our interest in karting over 5 years ago, and Dougie was grumpily giving advice on how to run and do the basics on it, when our friend said "this is like Dougie's Race Team", and thus the idea was born.
The logo was designed by Graham Ramage , and from there stickers, suits, tents etc started appearing, and as always a more than generous helping hand was given by Dougie, with the aim to making us faster. Steven started to get the bug harder and harder each year, and it seemed more people seemed to be interested in what we were doing and whether they could park up beside us in case assistance was needed, because there was very little we couldn't find a fix for.
Fast forward to the end of last year, and Steven was always answering questions and calls on how to do things, and whether he would driver coach younger drivers, with the possibility of doing this at events we were competing at. I was in the process of purchasing Seedhill Service Station, and both myself and Steven realised that as Dougie moved to retirement, neither of us could rely on him to help fund our passion any more. So Steven took the bold step of purchasing a much larger tent, updating teamwear and racesuits, and in general taking the team to a whole new level.
This has meant a lot of up and downs through the year, but never once any regrets at making the jump.
The biggest challenge for Steven, though he will never admit it, is trying to give every person in the tent the attention they deserve, whilst not detracting from his own racing career, and he always makes sure the people in the tent come before him.
The weekend of the Scottish Championships at Larkhall has been one of the greatest we have had. A tough weekend in terms of tough conditions and even tougher competition to beat. I don't know if the Senior Max 162 final seemed boring to watch, but from a team perspective it was absolutely nerve racking watching Steven lead from start to finish line, especially as Tristan Rennie was never more than 1 second from his rear bumper and had no intention of giving up what had been a fantastic drive for him all day.
But Steven did cross the line first, and a title that had eluded him for all these years was now his.
We could have gone home quite happy at this point, but there was still the small point of the Senior Max 177's which DRT had both Aaron Mackay and Chris Waddell in. And they didn't fail to impress. They drove smart, and made sure that the track limits that were getting other competitors numerous penalties were not going to be a problem, and crossed the finish line in an incredible 1-2.
The weekend in the tent was upbeat, everybody trying their upmost, even if a result hadn't gone their way. This is the team that we built.
And to finish off in a true tribute to Dougie with his bad jokes, Steven will be called the Snail now, because when he passes we will ask "Did you see that S-kart-go”

🏁Race Weekend🏁

This weekend its the Scottish Championship / S-Plate at Larkhall Circuit.

Another very competitive grid of 19 seniors booked in (so far).
This will be the biggest race meeting I've raced in.
Friday is practice day. Saturday is practice in the morning followed by qualifying and heat 1 in the afternoon. Sunday is heats 2 & 3 followed by a superheat and a final.
