Established over 120 years ago, Bishops Castle Town FC are a grassroots community club, currently playing in the Montgomeryshire Football League. Bishops Castle Town FC were in the Montgomeryshire Football League for 25 years before making the jump to the Mercian League six years ago, to try and progress in the Shropshire football pyramid. With travelling to games becoming a problem, and more and more players becoming unavailable, Bishops Castle Town FC took the decision to apply to play back in the Montgomeryshire Football League, which after brief resistance, Bishops Castle Town FC were able to do. Bishops Castle Town FC are extremely proud to have number of junior teams for up and coming footballers to develop. The senior side and junior sides work closely together to ensure the club maintains it's development of the younger generations to come.

Tony Returns As Castle Grab First Win!

Bishops Castle faced Caersews Development Team for their first home game of the season and didn’t disappoint the home crowd.

With key player Martyn Ziemann returning from a 5 game ban and no holiday whatsoever, Castle started the game on the front foot. They had to change their playing style due to the long grass and had to play long, much to Mark Griffiths ’ disappointment. This however suited Castle who quickly took the lead after some good play down the left was finished off by the spine of Sam Jones ( a skill only he has semi-mastered).

Sammy wasn’t finished there however as he quickly doubled his tally with a brilliant half volley finish into the roof of the net to give Castle some breathing room.

Sensing a chance to increase his tally young striker Tom Edwards was hungry to get in on the action and after a brilliant textbook flick on from Zicermann, Tom had his chance and finished superbly to increase the lead to 3.

Castle capped off the first half performance with a fourth when Toby Mills ( aka Tony , aka Shinny , aka Hairline ) announced himself on the game. After intercepting a free kick from Caersews he bagan the counter attack, drove forward with the ball and quickly played Tom Edwards through. Tom emphatically cut inside from the pass and finished into the far corner getting his second of the game. The second half was more of the same from Castle who continued to defend well and keep Caersews chances to a minimum. Despite this Caersews did give it there all after grabbing one back and winning a penalty all in the last 5 minutes.

The penalty was seriously questionable but after our previous misdemeanors we'll leave it at that. The ref in fairness had a pretty decent game. Aidan Oakley especially formed a tight bond with the official, who incidentally, was sporting a sharp haircut not seen since Kurt Russel in Stargate.

The penalty however was saved by the cat Joe McKay who guessed right, punched the ball clear yet still had the striker claiming the ball had passed the line. Unfortunately for him the basic laws of physics and everyone’s eyes proved that wasn’t the case meaning the game ended 4-1 to Bishops Castle.

After causing a threat on the wing and setting up the fourth he then continued his top performance by helping his team from centre midfield. His constant work rate, some hard challenges ( an inevitable booking ) and nearly capping it off with a long range strike at the end meant that despite two goal-scorers getting braces the MOTM award was awarded to Toby Mills.

The U14’s season got underway today with their first game against Whitchurch Alport U14’s.

The whole team put in a great performance not one of them giving up and playing good football right to the end, although the boys lost the team remained competitive throughout and every single player was superb when on the pitch.

Well done boys ⚽️

Also a big thankyou to our very own Greg Wainwright for standing in as ref at last minute.

Come down and support the lads....... By the looks of our start I think we need it!

We are on the lookout for a small generator to power our refreshments hut on the football pitch. If you have one laying around and don't mind the football club borrowing it please let us know.

There are a few changes down the pitch this season. The wooden fencing has been removed and we are without toilets until further notice.

The hut will still be operating as normal......... If we can find a generator that is 👀
