We're delighted to announce that Bishop's Stortford Community Football Club has been recognised by England Football as an official Greater Game Flagship Club – making us the only club in Hertfordshire to receive this prestigious status.

The Greater Game is an England Football initiative that supports the health and wellbeing of young people aged 12–16, encouraging them to Move Well, Think Well, Eat Well and Sleep Well.

At BSCFC, we've always believed football is about far more than the game itself. Becoming a Flagship Club recognises our commitment to helping young people develop not only as footballers, but as confident, healthy and resilient individuals.

To celebrate, we're also proud to share a special video from England Football featuring two of our own BSCFC girls, who were invited to take part in a Greater Game filming day, where they got the opportunity to find out what England Lionesses, Alessia Russo and Niamh Charles get up to during the off-season. An unforgettable experience and one we're incredibly proud of!

Grassroots football in our county relies on thousands of volunteers getting involved and helping out in a range of different roles every week of the season. It's a great activity to be involved in, but managing this huge operation can be challenging. Kudos to those who take this on so wholeheartedly - they are nearly always volunteers themselves!

Last week in partnership with Hertfordshire Football Association and North Herts and Stevenage CVS, GoVolHerts ran a training session about recruiting and retaining volunteers. We looked at how to consider volunteering opportunities more from the volunteer's perspective (and not just the club's) and some of the issues that come up with volunteering in football. We had some really interesting conversations with the clubs in attendance and we hope that participants have gone away with new ideas and strategies to put in place to secure the volunteers they need.
