Match day 4 - Wyre Junior U14s away!

Another cold windy day - how long is it until summer???
The lads started well today, creating some good early pressure in the opening few minutes. The ball wasn't moving great on the pitch, so it was a little bit scrappy in places. A couple of chances came and went for Hoops before Wyre found themselves ahead from a corner. A free header nestled into the back of the net.
Hoops carried on as they'd started and were probably unlucky not to find an equaliser through Brandon as he fired wide inside the box. A 2nd goal came for Wyre after around 15 minutes. A long ball from the back and a bit of a defensive mix up allowed Wyre in to make it 2-0! Not what had been deserved and heads could've gone down because of that, but credit to the lads who stuck at the task.
The pitch was making it difficult to play our usual football, and wyre were using the long ball to try and cause us more problems. Hoops however managed to find a goal back into the game, a lovely weighted pass saw Brandon in on the left side of the box, and a low left foot finish got us a goal back! 2-1.
Not long after Hoops grabbed an equaliser. Some determined play from Jayden on the edge of the box saw his shot blocked but land nicely in Brandon's path. One touch and a nice finish made it 2-2 after around 30 minutes!
There was still time for a 5th goal just before the break. A Hoops corner was buried from close range by Jayden to make the HT score Wyre 2-3 Hoops! Not our best half in terms of the football played, but great resilience shown to turn the game on its head.

2nd half saw Hoops take better control of the game and we were unlucky not to extend our lead. Some good blocks, and unlucky efforts saw the scoreline remain the same until the very last minute, when Lucas rounded the keeper to finish in an empty net.
Wyre 2-4 Hoops the final score.

The win sees us continue unbeaten this phase, and now on a 7 game winning run extending from the first phase. An amazing achievement from the lads πŸ™ŒπŸ’šβš½οΈ

Big game today with the Foxhall Derby at Fishers Field πŸ’š

Both teams started the first half well, creating some half chances but no one could quite get the final ball right. The breakthrough came for foxhall about 15 minutes in. A free kick from the back found it's way straight through to their striker who finished nicely. Our only mistake and we were punished for it. Credit to the lads though, they kept their heads high and carried on playing and created some more great chances. An equaliser finally came with a quick counter attack. The ball cleared from the back between Alfie and Oli found Lennon R in the middle with space. He turned and played a lovely ball through for Brandon to run onto and slot the ball past the keeper right on half time. Foxhall 1-1 Hoops!

Loads of praise at HT for the lads, but also a change of formation and a use of the subs bench, keeping the legs fresh so that we could keep pushing hard. We did and around 10 mins into the 2nd half we found another goal to take the lead. A clearance from Liam found Brandon free in space on the left. He worked his way past 3 players as he hit the box before playing the ball across to Lennon R. Lennon's initial shot was blocked by the keeper, but he nearly took the back of the net off with the re-bound! 1-2 Hoops.
The lads were bouncing with confidence and playing some great football. They battled hard all across the pitch and ensured Liam had little to do in the way of saves to make.
There were a few half chances through the second half, but 1-2 was how the game finished for Hoops to make it 3 wins from 3.
The lads absolutely worked their socks off today, in a fixture which we lost 7-1 last time out! Absolutely credit to them all for the way they are pushing themselves and challenging this season πŸ’ͺπŸ’šβš½οΈ

Match day 2 - Clifton Hornets at Fishers Field. Fair to say it was a windy one πŸ’¨πŸ’¨

The wind was definitely a factor on the game today, Hoops playing the first half into the wind. We found it tough at times to get out of our half, but did still try and play some nice football. We did have the ball in the back of the net once through Lucas, only for the offside flag to go up! We defended well throughout the half though and we were fairly happy to go in 0-0 still at HT.

2nd half we had the wind behind us and it saw us putting more pressure on Clifton. The break through came about 5 minutes into the first half, directly from an inswinging corner from Brandon! Not long after Hoops doubled their lead, a nice ball down the outside of the defenders from Charlie saw Brandon running in on the right. His initial shot was saved by the keeper, but the rebound was finished by Louis! 2-0 Hoops.
A few subs seemed to change the flow of the game slightly and Clifton created a few chances, a fantastic save from Liam keeping the 2 goal advantage. Shortly afterwards Clifton did find a goal back though, a great strike from outside the box making it 2-1.
It was a fairly even game throughout, both teams creating chances, however Hoops were able to get the last and decisive goal. A few exchanges of possession in the midfield saw a loose ball find Alfie, who calmly lifted the ball over the top for Lucas to run in on goal and round the keeper to make it 3-1.

That win makes it 2 wins from 2 for Hoops in the 2nd phase and sees us joint top of the league! Fantastic start from the lads, in challenging conditions today as well πŸ’šβš½οΈπŸ’šβš½οΈ

Sundays game saw us finally get phase 2 under way after two weeks of snow and ice keeping the games off! Away at Lytham Windmills it certainly wasn't an easy 1st game.

The lads knew that they had to be up for it today if they wanted to be in this game. Hoops started really well and were stringing some nice moves together, getting in on Windmills goal but just not quite finding the finish, whilst at the same time keeping it nice and solid at the back. A break through finally came about 15 mins in, some good pressure following a corner didn't allow Lytham to clear the ball fully, it fell to Lennon R who smashed a cross back across the goal for the ball to fly into the net off a Lytham defender. A little lucky, but fully deserved after the start to the game.
Hoops created a few more chances before HT but unfortunately couldn't add to the lead. It came back to bite us just before HT as two quick fire Lytham goals saw them lead 2-1 at HT.

A good positive HT team talk was had, the lads knew they were more than in the game and remained positive.

Windmills stared the 2nd half strong but Hoops remained resilient and dealt with the majority of the pressure. An equaliser came about 10 minutes into the 2nd half, a brilliant through ball from Brandon allowed Lucas to run in on goal and finish fantastically with his left foot from just inside the box.

Unfortunately we couldn't hold being level for long and a scrappy goal saw Lytham retake the lead. Hoops were very much still in the game, creating some good chances only for a fantastic save from Lythams keeper to keep them in front. Hoops however did eventually find a way back level, a great ball in behind found Louis running in on goal and he was able to tuck it under the on rushing keeper, 3-3!

It was an entertaining game with both sides playing good football. The decider was scored about 10 minutes before the end, Lucas was found in behind again where he rounded the keeper and finished into an empty net. 3-4!!

That's how the game finished in what was a fantastic result for Hoops. It's been a long time since we have beaten Lytham Windmills, so rightly so the lads were more than happy with their achievement.

So proud of the whole team today. No matter whether on or off the pitch, they were together supporting each other and putting 110% effort in πŸ’šβš½οΈ

MOM today went to Oli, however the whole team were fantastic πŸ’šπŸ’š

Last game of phase 1 yesterday for Hoops facing Clifton Hornets at Stanley park.

We started the first half really well, dominating the ball and creating plenty of chances. After already having a couple of chances, we opened the scoring after 4 minutes, a lovely through ball from Lennon W found Lennon R in behind the defence and he calmly finish. Hoops soon found a 2nd, virtually the same move, this time Louis with the through ball for Lennon R to run onto again and slot home. Hoops were dominating, some nice footwork from Jayden on the edge of cliftons box won Hoops a freekick, Brandon converted for 3-0 after around 15 mins!
Hoops played some nice football through the half, Clifton were defending better but Hoops were still team on top.
A 4th goal came, Lennon R once again the scorer for his hattrick. Another through ball was smashed home from the edge of the box.
Clifton managed to get a goal back right on HT to make the score 4-1!
The lads got plenty of praise at HT, a few slight areas for improvement but nothing major.

Clifton came out stronger in the 2nd half and were in the game more than the first half. Hoops had made several positional changes by this point but were still holding steady, even when reduced to 10 players for a sin bin 😬

Hoops extended their lead with a 5th goal, a long ball out from the back was controlled well by Lucas. He beat his man on the edge of the box and finished brilliantly with a left foot shot across the keeper into the far corner from a tight angle πŸ’₯

Hoops made plenty of changes through the second half, ensuring plenty of minutes for all. A couple of mistakes defensively cost us 2 goals later in the half, but it wasn't enough to undo all of our hardwork through the game. Final score Foxhall Hoops 5 -3 Clifton Hornets!

A great finish to the phase from the lads.

No scheduled league fixture this weekend, but it turned out to be a busy one with friendlies booked for Saturday and Sunday!!

Saturday saw us play Tommy tekez U13/14s group who hosted us at Stanley park.
Tommy's side played their U14s for the first half and it was an evenly matched game, both sides creating good chances and scoring some good goals. The second half saw Tommy's team field U13s who gave Hoops a good test at times by playing some nice football. Hoops were a bit stronger though in the 2nd half, but composure and being clinical cost us the chance to score some goals. We did however convert some really good chances, Lennon R with thee pick of them with a nice lob over the onrushing keeper.

The final score wasn't important, it was about getting good minutes on the pitch for some players, and experimenting with some new positions for others. Overall a great afternoon πŸ‘ŒπŸ’š

Onto Sunday, and a slightly depleted squad with only one sub, not ideal after already playing Saturday! St Annes Yellows today's opponents.
Hoops started well in the game, the front players linking up well and creating some chances which unfortunately we couldn't take.
Typically, St Annes went down the other end and scored in what seemed to be their first chance in the game. Not long after they doubled their lead, there didn't seem to be any danger with their player on the left side, but he pulled out a fantastic lofted finish! 2-0 which was the half time score. We could see there was some tired legs out on the pitch, but we rallied the lads at half time and knew if they could get the first goal, heads would be lifted.
That's exactly what happened. A great start to the second half, saw more brilliant link up play which ended in a lovely goal for Brandon. Hoops kept the pressure on well for a good 15 minutes but couldn't quote get back on level terms.
Later in the half, St annes were awarded a penalty to make it 3-1, before adding a 4th from a corner.

Again, same as Saturday, the scoreline wasn't the focus. With only 12 players it allowed for plenty of game time. The lads have put things into practice from training over the weekend which has been great to see πŸ™Œ

Sunday saw us play our penultimate game of the first phase, hosting Clifton Bees at Fishers Field.
Hoops started the game strong putting pressure on the Clifton goal, but we're unable to find the early breakthrough. It took just over 20 minutes for it to come, a lofted free kick into the box was met by a lovely touch from Lucas who finished cooly to make it 1-0. That was the breakthrough that was needed, and should've seen Hoops carry on their dominance in the game. However, just a few minutes after the goal, Hoops were unable to clear their lines defensively and conceded an equaliser!
Frustrating after all the hard work and dominance through the half, but the lads picked themselves up, went again and not long after found ourselves 2-1, after a penalty was won and converted by Lucas. HT 2-1!
The second half was a bit niggly, Hoops creating a few chances whilst defending well, I don't recall Liam having to make a save in the second half which is testament to how well we defended!
The final goal in the game didn't come until the last minute, a defensive clearance from Alfie turned into a counter attack and saw Lucas race in on an empty goal, for his hattrick, and to make the final score 3-1 Hoops!

A great team performance from the lads, plenty of subs today so they did well keeping the flow of the game and keeping the pressure up πŸ™Œ

Massive congratulations to one of our own, Lewis!πŸ’šπŸ’š
Lewis played with Foxhall from cubs up until U12s when he signed for Fleetwood. Fastforward two years, and he's been playing up from U14, to U16 and U18 level!
Last week Lewis signed a pre scholarship contract with Fleetwood which is a fantastic achievement.
From all of us here at Foxhall Under 14 Hoops, we wish you all the best, go and smash it and take it to the next level πŸ’ͺπŸ’šβš½οΈπŸ’šβš½οΈπŸ’š

Re-match today of last weeks game against Fleetwood, however down on a windy Fishers Field. After a wet morning, it was glorious sunshine for the match, with a touch of gale force winds πŸ’¨

First half Foxhall were kicking into the wind, it was a well battled half, the lads working hard to try and maintain their shape and limit Fleetwoods chances. The lads worked hard throughout, not giving up and were unfortunate to go in 2-0 down.

The lads were positive, knew they were still in the game and now had the wind behind them 2nd half. We started well, but just couldn't seem to get the final ball right. We got lucky as Fleetwood missed a penalty, before managing to get themselves another couple of goals midway through the 2nd half. At 4-0 it would've been easy to give up, however the lads kept battling and manged to pull a goal back through Lucas (not a header this week 🀣🀣).
The lads kept trying to find another goal, they got the ball in and around the box a few times but couldn't find the last pass or thr clinical finish. As we got to the last 15 minutes, it was clear to see the efforts in the first half were starting to catch up with us a bit, as midfield were struggling to keep up with the game.
Fleetwood ultimately picked up 2 late goals to run out 6-1 winners.

We're still so please with the lads efforts over the last few weeks against the toughest teams in the league. We have a free week next weekend from a game, so a chance to regroup and push on for our final two games of the phase!!

Lancs county cup game today saw us play a strong Fleetwood side at Poolfoot Farm Sports & Leisure Complex. We knew this was going to be a tough one as Fleetwood haven't lost a game in a very long time. We set ourselves some targets again before the game to keep us competitive and the lads didn't disappoint!
Every lad in the team today put an absolute shift in, working hard on and off the ball and making life hard for Fleetwood.
We came in at HT 2-1 down which showed how hard the lads had worked to remain in the game. A good confident HT team talk, including the lads getting involved put us in a good position to start the 2nd half.
We managed to create some chances, whilst keeping Fleetwood at bay for the first 15-20 minutes of the 2nd half. Unfortunately we conceded 2 goals later in the half, which saw the game end 4-1 to Fleetwood.

Although it was defeat, we are so proud in what the lads showed on the pitch today, they truly left everything out there and it was a pleasure to watch the way they worked for each other. We've identified some areas to work on again before our next league game next weekend.......against Fleetwood 🀣 Let's see if we can improve on today's performance!
