🦋Thank you for sending memories from 24 years ago today, 5th August 2002 and my swim of the English Channel on Butterfly.
🏊♀️A "touch down" in France, followed by a good friends wedding 5 days later when I was bridesmaid.
💯The journey and raising loads for charity, is etched firmly in my mind.
💭 When people ask me even now, "Anything else?"

World Drowning Prevention Day

Today is World Drowning Prevention Day. 🌊🏊
With so many open water areas in the borough, during periods of warm weather it can be tempting to cool off in them.
Open water may be much cooler and deeper than it appears and most accidental drownings happen inland, not on the coast.
Former Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Dr. Julie Bradshaw MBE is an open water swimmer and world record holder who has swum the English Channel solo twice.
Cllr Bradshaw is encouraging anyone considering swimming in open water to be aware of the potential dangers.
🗣️Cllr Bradshaw said: “I’ve taken part in many open water swims over the years, raising money for charity and even achieving a few world records along the way.
“However, what people don’t always see is the level of training, preparation and acclimatisation required. Entering open water without being properly prepared can quickly become dangerous.
“Open water swimming is safest when taking part in an event with health and safety representatives so please ensure you never swim alone or unsupervised.
“I would like to reiterate the safety advice issued by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.
“By following their guidance we can all enjoy the warm weather safely.”

🛥️What a wonderful evening supporting Warning Zone and the High Sheriffs Osprey Cruise on board the Rutland Belle.
🐦We were blessed to see the Ospreys, one of which as a bird of prey, showed all of us on the boat, the flight, dive and how to catch their food in the water!
🙏Thanks to all those who helped on the cruise, with the serving of food and canapés.
