WEEKLY ROUND UP;
Champs STUMPY FC remain two points clear at the top with just three games left to play after hitting seven past SPECIAL KEBAB (4th) without reply.
Kebab keeper Si made a couple of great early saves, denying the league’s top-scorer Will R (Stumpy) from point blank range when man-of-the-match Pat Stumpy whipped an inviting ball in from the left, before he (Si) then made another top drawer save when Christie (Stumpy) came onto Adam’s (Stumpy) back heel.
Ben (Keb) then let fly with a strike that was blocked by George (Stumpy) and Will R fired wide with a follow-up shot when Si was stranded on the floor after saving the Stumpy striker’s initial effort, however, Will R scored with his next attempt (low, from a tight angle) after working a clever free-kick with Pat (1-0).
Will R then netted again moments later when it was put on a plate for him by Pat, who accelerated past his marker on the left flank and crossed low, before Christie then won a penalty and got up to convert it himself (3-0).
Stumpy keeper Adam R was then on his toes to make a decent save at full-stretch, to his right, to turn away Ben’s long-range attempt, before Dave (Kebab) and Will R had shots saved at either end.
Si then made a good ‘double save’, frustrating both Will R and Pat in quick succession, before George set up Adam, who added the fourth goal (4-0).
George then got on the scoresheet in style, making it 5-0 with a scorching right-footer, which was caught sweetly, before it flew into the top, left corner from distance.
Christie then made it 6-0 when Pat dinked the ball to him at the back post (from the left side), before Jake wrapped things up for the holders later on (7-0).
Kebab had a few good moments in this game though with Wilks (Kebab) seeing his low, right-footed drive cannon back off the far post, before Adam R made a stunning late save to preserve his second clean sheet of the season.
He reacted fast to repel Dave’s effort from point blank range when Ben picked him out towards the end of the game.
Stumpy will take a huge step to retaining their crown if they can overcome Sea Breeze The League next week, whereas Kebab will be looking to climb back up to third when they take on Blackpool North next.
BAYER NEVERLUSEN (2nd) continue to breath down the neck of the leaders after doing the double over big rivals STEVE BRUCEIA DORTMUND.
Neverlusen won the derby 6-2 to remain two points behind champs Stumpy with Jamie (Nev) getting his side off to a great start courtesy of an assist from his captain Cocker (Nev).
Reece (Dort) almost made it 1-1 straight away, but his long-range rocket left the Neverlusen goal trembling after it slammed against the crossbar, before Phil (Nev) hounded Dortmund’s last defender and stole possession from him, prior to calmly grounding Dortmund number one Ste and rolling the ball in with his left foot (2-0).
Dortmund’s reaction was swift though with their leading scorer Alex immediately making it 2-1 when he pounced on Ben’s (Dort) shot which was parried by Neverlusen keeper Jason, however, after just getting back into the game Dortmund conceded again seconds later when a lovely Neverlusen move involving Cory (Nev), Jamie and Jordan (Nev) carved them open.
It was Jordan who put the finishing touches to it, guiding the ball, low into the far corner to make it 3-1, before Gareth (Dort) was desperately unlucky to see his low shot rebound off both posts when he navigated his way between two opposition defenders!
Cocker then fired over, before Dortmund broke and Gareth moved the ball quickly to the right to Ruben (Dort), but he also hit the woodwork!
His shot clipped the outside of the far post, before man-of-the-match Jordan H (Nev) unleashed a stunning, long-range strike that put more daylight between the teams.
His swerving, right-footed screamer flew into the roof of the net, giving Ste no chance, making it 4-1.
(Jordan H scored with a very similar effort in a previous fixture too).
He (Jordan H) was then on hand to block a follow-up shot from Dortmund skipper Bowey when Alex had an attempt saved, before Reece struck with another thunderbolt that flew into the net this time (4-2), however, any thoughts of a Dortmund revival were killed off by two late Harvie (Nev) goals, which came just after Cocker was kept off the scoresheet by a strong, one-handed reflex save (6-2).
Neverlusen’s title challenge continues with a tricky test v Inter HQ next week, while Dortmund play Revoe next.
SEA BREEZE THE LEAGUE (5th) beat BLACKPOOL NORTH (8th) 5-1 in a game that was closer than the scoreline suggests.
SB took the lead when George (SB) latched onto an error and delivered the ultimate punishment (1-0), before he (George) was stopped from doubling his side’s lead by this week’s Dream Team keeper Joe (BN), who made a good save to his left.
Joe was at it again moments later, making a ‘double save’ that kept out man-of-the-match Harry (SB) twice in quick succession, whereas Jayden’s (BN) quick feet afforded him enough room to get off a shot that forced a near post save from SB’s captain/stand-in keeper Oli.
BN then attacked again through their captain Adam, who also had an attempt saved when he let fly from the left, before BN’s persistence paid off when Brad (BN) skipped past his marker and drilled a low, left-footer past Oli (1-1).
Both George and Adam missed the target at either end and Joe (SB) saw his well-struck effort from the right flank turned away by his namesake in the BN net, before SB restored their lead through Harry, who cut in and made it 2-1.
Nath (BN) was then presented with a big chance by Jayden, but blasted over from close range, whereas Jayden was unlucky not to make it 2-2 when his rocket rebounded off the crossbar.
It turned out to be a pivotal spell in the game, because seconds later SB took control when they went into a two-goal lead courtesy of Oscar’s (SB) lovely first-time finish, which was guided into the roof of the net when he came onto Harry’s pass from the right (3-1).
Jayden tried to get BN back in the contest quickly, evading his marker with a cheeky ‘nutmeg’, but his resulting shot was saved, before Dan (SB) threaded a nice pass (centrally) to George, who also saw his finish dealt with by the keeper.
It was a high press and finish by Dan that essentially killed the game (4-1), before Oscar put the icing on the cake for SB late on when he tapped in with a ‘poacher’s goal’ after following up another George shot that had been saved (5-1).
SB play a big part in the title race next week when they get to test themselves v champs Stumpy, whereas Blackpool North go in search of their first points when they go head-to-head with Special Kebab next.
INTER HQ moved up to third (on goal difference) after beating REVOE FC (7th) in a high-scoring game that finished 11-4!
Revoe’s impressive keeper Chris was in good form again, making early saves to deny Inter captain Hez and Tom (Inter), before Revoe then raced into a two-goal lead thanks to Pete’s (Rev) low, left-footer (hit on the turn) that nestled into the far corner (1-0), and Rob’s (Rev) firmly placed finish when he got on the end of Shea’s (Rev) perfectly weighted, threaded pass (2-0), but within seconds Kian replied for Inter with a nice, solo goal on the right (2-1), and Hez made it 2-2 when following up his own shot that had been turned onto the bar by a great, one-handed save.
Fletch (Inter) then put his side ahead for the first time when he retrieved the ball and cut inside from the byline and dispatched a low left-footer from a tight angle (3-2), before Shea equalised instantly after latching onto Pete’s flick header (3-3).
Chris then made two more excellent saves, denying Kian and keeping Fletch out with his legs, whereas Hez had a shot blocked by Revoe captain Ricky when Inter pair Will and George linked up well to set their captain up.
Pete then planted a header wide when Shea found him with a pinpoint in-swinger from the left, before Fletch cut inside onto his left again and drilled a low finish into the bottom, near corner (4-3).
It was at this point that Inter firmly took control, rapidly scoring three more goals without reply.
Hez scored again when Fletch found him on the right (Hez’s burst of pace leaving the Revoe back-line flat-footed), before he (Hez), netted once more with a lovely, back-to-goal finish (hit on the spin) that found the top, right corner at high velocity (6-3).
It was Hez who then made it 7-3, benefiting from an Inter corner, whereas Rob struck again to pull it back to 7-4, before further goals from Hez and Fletch extended Inter’s lead to 9-4.
A rally of decent efforts at either end then left both goals shaking with Rob smashing against the Inter crossbar and Tom also hitting the bar with Fletch seeing his attempt crash against the post as well!.
It was then Fletch and a calm, dinked finish by Tom that wrapped up the 11-4 win for Inter, who have a say in the title race next week when they entertain Bayer Neverlusen, while Revoe will be looking to bounce back positively v Dortmund next.
