Fantastic Coloured Belt Pre-Grading Today

A huge congratulations to everyone who attended today’s coloured belt pre-grading. The overall standard was very high, and it was great to see so much hard work and dedication from everyone.

If you received a letter highlighting areas for improvement, please don’t be disheartened. All grades at Northern Taekwondo are earned, and students need to demonstrate the required standard before progressing to their next belt.

The letters are there to help you. They explain the areas you need to work on so that you know exactly where to focus your practice. Keep training, come along to class this week and our instructors will work with you to help you achieve your goal.

A huge thank you to all of our Masters, Senior Masters, black belts and helpers who gave their time today to support our students.

Keep practising and keep working hard. We look forward to seeing everyone in class this week.

Important reminder: There will be no class at Baines High School this Tuesday, 6:00–7:00pm, due to the school’s Open Day. All our other classes are running as normal, so if Tuesday at Baines is your usual class, please make sure you attend one of our alternative sessions this week.

Fantastic Saturday morning at Northern Taekwondo!

We started the morning with our brilliant Mini Tigers, working on balance, coordination and blocking skills using beanbags and balls. Lots of fun while developing those important early Taekwondo skills.

We then moved straight into our mixed children and adult class, focusing on three-step and one-step sparring in preparation for our upcoming pre-grading.

We were lucky to have five Masters helping to run today’s classes, allowing us to split everyone according to their level. We had a Master working with our younger beginners, another with our older beginners, while Senior Master Ian assisted Grandmaster Lee with the main class.

We also managed to fit in some dedicated training with our Elite Team, focusing on speed, fitness and cardio as they prepare for their next competition on 3rd October.

And finally, a very Happy Birthday to Thomas! We hope you have a fantastic day!

Fantastic class tonight!

A great session working on kicking drills, focusing on accuracy, control and technique. We then progressed onto kicking combinations, putting different techniques together and working on speed, balance and precision.

We ended the session with patterns, followed by the famous Walk of Doom to celebrate Noah’s 16th birthday!

Fantastic class tonight at Thornton Heath and Fitness Centre!

Another brilliant session with everyone working hard on three-step and one-step sparring, along with plenty of sparring and kicking techniques for our new beginners.

A huge welcome to all of our fantastic new beginners who have recently joined us. It’s great to see so many children, adults and families training together, learning new skills and enjoying Taekwondo alongside each other.

We love seeing parents training with their children and families sharing their Taekwondo journey together.

🥋 Fantastic class tonight at Baines!

A brilliant session with everyone working hard on three-step sparring and one-step sparring, before finishing off with patterns. Great focus and effort from everyone throughout the class!

We also want to wish a HUGE Happy 16th Birthday to Noah for tomorrow!

Noah has been training with Northern Taekwondo since he was just 5 years old, so it’s been fantastic to watch him grow up through the club and continue progressing with his Taekwondo.

Fantastic classes today at Blackpool Sports Centre!

Brilliant attendance across both classes this morning!

A big welcome to all our brand-new Mini Taekwondo Tigers You all did fantastic, showing excellent concentration, focus, balance and coordination, while working on your blocking skills.

We then moved into our main class, and a big welcome to all our new beginners, both adults and children. It was excellent to see so many new faces joining us today!

Today we focused on sparring drills and techniques, with many of the drills coming from over 40 years of experience and extensive knowledge from Grand Master Lee, bringing the highest level of Taekwondo experience into our classes.

We finished the session by cooling down with patterns. Fantastic effort and focus from everyone throughout!

It was lovely to see so many of our graduated Mini Taekwondo Tigers now joining the bigger class.

They’ve learnt all the basics in Mini Tigers and it’s fantastic to see them ready for the next step, bringing with them all those important listening, focus and confidence skills they’ve picked up along the way.

It was also great to see so many parents joining in tonight, including some of our previous black belts who are now back training with their own children!
It does make us feel a little bit old but it’s brilliant to see another generation enjoying Taekwondo with us.

Our Mini Taekwondo Tigers classes are a great introduction to Taekwondo for children aged 3–6 years, helping them learn the basics in a fun and friendly environment before progressing into our main classes.

If your child is aged 3–6 years and would like to give Mini Taekwondo Tigers a try — or you have an older child or adult interested in starting Taekwondo — please get in touch.

An absolutely fantastic turnout brilliant to see so many of you putting the effort into your training.

Tonight we focused on sparring techniques, putting them into practice with full sparring and working on movement, timing, combinations and control.

We finished the session with patterns, concentrating on technique, accuracy and getting ready for the upcoming grading.

Fancy giving Taekwondo a try?

We’ve been teaching Taekwondo for over 40 years, and we still love seeing new students walk through the door for their very first class.

Northern Taekwondo is a family-run club, led by Grand Master Lee Heyes, 8th Dan, alongside his wife Laura, their daughters Ella and Poppy, and our fantastic team of experienced instructors. We’re proud to have taught generations of students and families across the Fylde Coast.

We currently teach in 16 primary schools, as well as running evening and weekend classes in Blackpool, Thornton, Poulton, Pilling, Wesham and Longridge.

Our classes are friendly, welcoming and, most importantly, fun! You don’t need to be fit, flexible or have any martial arts experience to get started — just come along and give it a go. Our instructors will teach you everything you need to know.

Taekwondo is a fantastic way to build confidence, fitness, coordination, concentration and discipline, while learning self-defence, making new friends and becoming part of a great team.

We have classes for children, teenagers and adults, plus our Mini Tigers classes for ages 3–6, so there really is something for the whole family.

For students who want to take their training further, we also have our Elite Athlete Programme, giving dedicated athletes the opportunity to train and compete at tournaments throughout the UK and across Europe.

Some of our students train simply for fun and fitness, some love working towards their next belt, while others have ambitions to compete at a higher level. Whatever your goal, there’s a pathway for you at Northern Taekwondo.

After more than 40 years of teaching, one of the best parts for us is still watching someone come through the door as a nervous beginner and seeing their confidence grow as they progress.

We’re proud to be a family-run club, and we want everyone who trains with us to feel welcome and part of the Northern Taekwondo family.

We’re currently welcoming new beginners across all of our classes.
