The Stars start their season next Saturday with an enthralling local Derby against Pontllanfraith who are only a mile down the Sirhowey Valley or 4 stops on the 151 bus.

After the game in the clubhouse we have arranged an evening with local hero ex welsh international Kevin Moseley.

This is what grassroots rugby is all about and the players and coaches have worked hard in preseason training and really excited for this game.

Your support will be appreciated its going to be a cracking day and night.

๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ‰MATCH REPORT๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ‰

It was a pleasure to play Llandybie this Saturday; a team the Stars have never played before. The club would firstly like to congratulate Llandybie on reaching 125 years as a rugby club. ๐Ÿ‘

It was the Stars second preseason game and their first at home. The game was played on the 4G playing surface as Stade de Libanus pitch remained rock hard.

The game was a very even due to the committed and well structured defences of both teams. The first half was cut short after a very nasty injury to a Llandybie player after 20 minutes. Huge thanks to the physios of both teams who dealt with things very professionally; we have come a long way since the days Alan Oliver (Olly) used to run on with a bucket of water and sponge.

it was decided to cut short the remainder of the first half and go straight into the second half. Ten minutes into the second half Stars full back Liam Matthews took a high ball in his 22 metre area side stepped the first up tackler and then cut the Llandbybie defence in half, out pacing the cover tacklers and scoring a try in the corner. Dan Prosser expertly kicked the difficult conversion.

This was the only difference between the two sides in an highly contested, committed game.

The three new signings Liam Matthews, Taran Clayton and Jake Lloyd had very solid games in their first home game for the Stars.

Man of the match was awarded to number 8 Joe Tams for a number of big hits and carries throughout the game.

Dick of the day went to James Edwards for the following dull statements before the game: "Why are boys putting socks on before the game when they dont know what position they are playing" and "do we need to bring our own food to the club after the game"

Finally a big thank you to Llandybie for agreeing to play the Stars and spending a few hours in the clubhouse afterwards where we had a great time. Hopefully your injured player is home, recovering and not in too much pain, please send him our love. We look forward to playing at your ground next preseason unless of cause we draw each other in the cup.

The Stars next game is our first league game and local derby against Pontllanfraith at Stade de Libanus on 12 September

The Stars are pleased to announce the signing of Jake Lloyd.

Jake was captain of Brynithel last season and recently moved into the Blackwood area and was looking for a more local team He also previously played for Hafodrynys and will add experience and solidity to the Stars outside backs.

The coaches are well aware of Jakes ability after coaching him in Hafodrynys and are pleased to rekindle the relationship

Welcome Jake to the Stars family ๐Ÿ’š

The Stars first home preseason friendly on Saturday. Last chance for the boys to get more match practice and fitness under their belts after their victory against Glais last Saturday.

Come up to Stade de Libanus and cheer the boys on. A bit of rain forecast this week so hopefully the pitch will be a little more moist that it has been the last couple of months.

๐Ÿ‰Match report๐Ÿ‰

The Stars travelled west for their first preseason friendly yesterday.

The Stars had a depleted squad due to a number of players on holiday and work commitments however the squad that took to the field showed huge commitment to the Stars badge and come away with a well deserved victory

Highlights of the game:

Full back Liam Matthews had a huge game in his first start in a Stars jersey running good angles and scoring 2 tries. It could have been an hat trick; he broke the line and had 60 metres to run with nobody in front of him only cover defence running back and as quoted by his young son on the touchline "if he had kept running he would have scored a try" ๐Ÿ˜†

Great all round display from back row Lloyd Ware, huge in defence, involved in a number of well worked tries and scored a great individual try. The performance earned him the man of the match selected by Glais.

A wonderful conversion by Kris Wheeler from the touchline to score the last points of the game

Thanks to Jordan Hunt who moved to Newcastle Emlyn at the end of last season to travel east and help us out which will probably be his last game for the Stars.

Big thank you to Glais RFC for your welcome and hospitality and we look forward to welcoming you to Blackwood Stars next preseason 2027

The Stars next preseason friendly is home at Stade de Libanus next Saturday 29th August against Llandybie.
