Friday evening we travelled to play Llanhilleth Bowls Club in the MBA Cup. It was an excellent game on a very good surface with both sides producing some great bowls. It was a very tight game, but our hosts made the most of their home advantage to run out winners. We wish them well and hope to see them enjoy more success and progress through the competition, we would also like to thank them for their hospitality. Good luck for the rest of the season ππΌππΌ
Saturday saw us playing our fourth MBA Division 2 league game and an opportunity to put the disappointment of Friday's cup exit behind us as we welcomed Newbridge Bowls Club to The Rec.
The game was a very tight affair early on and after 5 ends we led by the smallest of margins with 2 rinks up and 2 down. Things followed much the same pattern in the second quarter, with our visitors getting used to the green and at the halfway stage had taken a 1 shot lead. We still held the lead on rinks 1 and 2, whilst our guys on rink 3 were being given a torrid time as they trailed by 19. Rink 4 was a tighter affair as we trailed on here by 1.
The third quarter of the game belonged to us, as we built up a 13 shot advantage with rink 1 leading by 7, rink 2 by 20, rink 3 steadied the ship slightly as they trailed by 16 and rink 4 moved into a 2 shot lead.
We finished the game well to eventually run out winners by 17. Rinks 1 and 2 continued the way they started to gain their points and with an excellent finish to the game, rink 4 also secured the win. The only blot on the copy book was on rink 3 where the Newbridge four played some great bowls to run out comfortable winners. Credit to our lads though in stemming the early heavy scoring from their opponents. We look forward to the return fixture where I'm sure Newbridge will be out to reverse this result and apart from that game, we wish them well for the remainder of the season.

Wednesday evening we welcomed Pontyfelin Bowls Club to The Rec for an Eastern Valley League game.
We started well and after the first third of the game we led by 4. We hit a purple patch over the next 6 ends as we stretched our lead to 23.
The game was closed out well as we eventually ran out winners by 30 shots. Commiserations to Pontyfelin Bowls Club but well done for not giving in and battling til the end. We wish you well for the rest of the season.

Last Saturday we travelled to Llanhilleth for a Carruthers Shield qualifying game.
We started slightly the better on a very good playing surface and after 5 ends we led by 1.
The game remained tight up to the halfway stage as we held a 2 shot advantage.
From ends 10 to 15 we played well and our lead was extended to 8. During the last quarter of the game however, Llan battled back really well to edge out a great contest by 4 shots. We wish Llanhilleth the best of luck in the remaining qualifying game.
The game was played in a great spirit and we thank our hosts for their hospitality.
