It’s easy to get caught up in chasing the next goal, the next milestone, or the next big win. Sometimes, we focus so much on where we haven’t arrived yet that we forget to look back at where we’ve come from.

I’ve been guilty of this. I’ve spent hours picking apart what I did wrong, what I could’ve done better, or what didn’t go to plan. But every now and then, I force myself to stop, take a deep breath, and remember one thing: I’m not where I used to be.

The small victories matter. The first time I stepped back into the gym after being told I’d never lift again—that was a victory. The first comp i entered after my recovery, although i came dead last—that was a victory. Even showing up on the days when my mind told me to quit—that’s a victory too.

Perspective changes everything. When you look back, don’t just see the failures or the struggles. See the resilience. See the progress. Celebrate the wins, no matter how small they seem, because those are the moments that build who you are.

If I’ve learned anything, it’s this: the journey isn’t just about the final destination. It’s about every step you take to get there. Look back, take pride, and let those small victories remind you that you’re stronger than you think.

Polly has been with me for only 14 weeks.
