ECLIPSE TRAINING AT BCC π
We had enough players this evening for a 6-a-side game, which is fantastic to see.
Even better, there were plenty of hands going up when we asked who would be interested in hardball games next year.
This is exactly what weβre working so hard for. Getting more people playing, developing our players and building towards regular hardball cricket at the John Johnston Coupar Recreation Ground once again.
A great bunch of people, plenty of laughs and a really positive evening.
Big thanks to everyone who came along tonight β slowly but surely we are building the club back up. Onwards and upwards! π

π Meigle 6s β beer, burgers & a bit of cricket! π
What a day for BCC at the Meigle 6s! Two BCC teams took to the field, made up of a healthy mixture of coaches, dads and sons β with varying levels of competitiveness! π
Well done to all playing. We are super happy to come 3rd and 5th, although weβre choosing to focus on the important thingsβ¦ the beer was cold, the burgers were hot and everyone had a brilliant day! πΊπ
A special shout-out to Dylan, who bagged himself a hat-trick! ππ₯
And while the boys were busy with the cricket, Mum Jo was doing the really important work and came home with the prize for the cake competition! ππ
Huge thanks to Meigle CC for putting on a fantastic day and making it such a great one for everyone.
We hope to see you all again in a few weeks for our BCC 6s β hopefully with the same sunshine, cold beer and cricket! π

π Friday Night Softball! π
Friday night saw us out playing Meigle in a softball match, with 10 players taking to the field, including 6 making their BCC debuts! π
Itβs felt like ages since our last game, but everyone got stuck in and there were some brilliant improvements all round.
We may have lost, but Oliverβs fantastic catch was definitely the highlight! ππ
Well done everyone, and a big welcome to our 6 new players! ππ

Passing of Charlie Macpherson.
We are certain that the former players and supporters of Blairgowrie Cricket Club will be saddened to hear of his passing, but as long as there is a cricket club in the town his name should never be forgotten.
He arrived as our professional in 1965 and was the prime reason we won the Strathmore Union. On his first match at the Davie Park he scored 165 not out. In one weekend that year he took 18 wickets.
On his arrival, the then captain Don Brodie said he was happy he came as it was one less player to look for, in fact in Charlie he got 3 players. He was however, never a great coach, but his will to win, his artistry with the bat and able to bowl 6 different balls in an over and the standard he set was immense.
Charlie turned guys that played cricket into cricketers.
He was never aloof and in fact was just one of the boys, but he got our respect and the respect of every opponent we met. He gave us the opportunity at that time to play against the best players in Scotland, and some of them were Test Players to overseas countries. One weekend he took 10 wickets against Montrose on the Saturday at the JJ Coupar then on the Sunday on a flat track at Brechin, he was not having any success with the ball, when a cry from a spectator was " whars yer 10 wickets the day Macpherson". Not best pleased, he had his tea at the interval, opened the batting and hit over 100 not out to let us beat Brechin, he was pleased then.
Charlie could open the bowling and bowl right through, often 24 overs and then open the batting, he was also a very good wicket keeper. He was without doubt the best value for money professional in the league at that time.
It would be worth someones while to try and find out his statistics, it is doubtful it they will ever be surpassed. He was not only a major benefit to the club, he was also a benefit to the town and many people who had no connection to the club or knowledge of cricket, knew his name.
He was greatly admired and his name will and must live on.
RIP Charlie.
Brian Crighton and David Davidson, (former captains, and colleagues)

π A very special new tradition for Blairgowrie Cricket Club π
We were honoured to receive the Dick Oudney Memorial Shield, kindly presented to the club by Dickβs children, Carol and Richard, who had the shield made in memory of their dad.
Dick was a hugely respected member of Blairgowrie Cricket Club. In 1965, he was part of the team that achieved a remarkable milestone β winning the Strathmore Union Championship for the first and only time in the clubβs history.
A talented all-rounder, Dick was known as an accurate opening bowler, a hard-hitting batsman and a dependable slip fielder. He also served as club captain and was a much-respected President of the club.
Dickβs contribution to the club went far beyond the cricket pitch. He carried out all the joinery work when the clubβs pavilion was built, leaving behind a lasting legacy that means so much to his family and to everyone connected with Blairgowrie Cricket Club.
We are incredibly grateful to Carol and Richard for creating this special shield and sharing their dadβs story with us. It is fitting that it will now become the trophy for our Generations Cup 6s, bringing together past, present and future generations of Blairgowrie Cricket Club.
A wonderful tribute to a man who gave so much to our club. ππ

π What a fantastic evening with our Under 12s!
With both teams a little short on players, we mixed things up and enjoyed a combined pairs match instead. It turned out to be a brilliant night of cricket, with everyone getting involved, showing great teamwork and putting in some excellent performances.
A huge well done to all the players, and it was great to see everyone making the most of a lovely evening at a fantastic ground. ππ
