🎯 BEBSIDE SPORTING CLAYS – TODAY’S SHOOT 🎯

Well… 38 shooters turned up today, which isn’t exactly what you’d call a stampede! 😂

We’re hoping the slightly disappointing turnout had something to do with the biblical rain between 10am and 12pm. 🌧️☔ Honestly, Noah would have been looking for the boat.

If you decided to stay at home, you missed out because today’s targets were fantastic, entertaining and a proper variety. There was something to frustrate absolutely everyone — which, as you know, is how we like it! 😜

A quick explanation for those who noticed Bob was a little late getting the entries taken. We were struggling to get the shoot running on time this morning. We had just THREE volunteers turn up to help with the setup, and when you throw in a couple of blown fuses, remotes deciding they’d rather not participate and the usual little gremlins, it creates a knock-on effect.

I ask for volunteers every week, but unfortunately it’s always the same few faces doing the graft. So, a massive thank you to those who did turn up and get stuck in. 👍

For everyone else… you know where we are. 😏

🔥 SPORTRAP 🔥

The Sportrap was another belter, with targets that certainly gave the better shooters something to think about.

The simo pair of the battue and looper on Peg 3 was an absolute standout — a cracking pair and easily one of the highlights of the day.

And now, as promised, a special mention for Ray WRay Wintripy was understandably a little disheartened after shooting 2/8 on Stand 4 — yes Ray, THAT stand… the allegedly easy one! 😂

But what happened next deserves some serious credit.

Ray absolutely smashed it on the Sportrap, hitting every single simo pair. He only dropped two teals and a battue to finish on 22/25.

That was the highest score of the day, equalled by StuarStuart Dawson
Stu’s 22, however, perhaps wasn’t quite as aesthetically pleasing as Ray’s… Stu appeared to adopt the “spray enough pellets in the general direction and eventually some of them will hit” technique. 😂

Still, a 22 is a 22 — we’re not checking pellet trajectories! 😉

Unfortunately, there was no 25/25, so the prize pot rolls over and we’ll add another £5 to it.

So get yourselves down to Bebside, bring your cartridges, bring your waterproofs, and preferably bring your shooting ability as well.

And if you’ve got a spare morning, come and volunteer. We genuinely need the help, and it would be nice to see some new faces doing the graft rather than the same poor sods every week! 😂

🌿🔫 WHEN YOU ASK FOR A LITTLE PRUNING… 😂

All I did was ask our Head Groundsman, Ray Wintrip, to “prune a couple of branches” off a bush so I could throw a decent crosser…

Well… Ray heard “obliterate all shrubbery within a 40ft radius.” 🤣

Safe to say, I’ve now got rather more space than I was expecting! 🌳💥

So, let’s see what I can do with my brand-new throwing ground this Sunday… 👀

🚨 THE MADNESS IS OVER… FOR NOW! 🚨

After an absolutely bonkers August at Bebside Sporting Clays with the 5-Man Team Shoot and our 100 Target Open Shoot, we’re pleased to announce that the volunteers have survived, the trap batteries are getting a rest, and we can finally take our foot off the gas! 😂

That means it’s back to our normal club shoots this coming Sunday 6th September!

There’ll be a completely fresh set of targets waiting for you, with something to entertain everyone from C Class right through to A Class.

🎯 BEBSIDE SPORTING CLAYS – SUMMER OPEN SHOOT RESULTS 🎯

A massive thank you to everyone who turned up for today’s Summer Open Shoot, whether you tackled the 50 targets or the full 100!

We had a fantastic entry of 55 shooters, although a few scorecards appear to have gone missing in action… perhaps some scores were best left unrecorded! 😂

The feedback on the targets was brilliant, and it was great to hear so many positive comments throughout the day. We tried to put on a good mix of entertaining targets, and judging by the laughter, groans and occasional colourful language, the simo pair of rabbits definitely stole the show! 🐇🐇💨

Most importantly, it was another cracking day with an excellent friendly atmosphere around the ground. Plenty of banter, plenty of laughs and some seriously impressive shooting.

Our very own local legend, veteran campaigner and apparently still capable of occasionally putting in a decent score… Ian Mullarkey with 87/100, winning £40! 👴😂

For years Ian has been dining out on stories of how good he used to be… but today it looks like there may be a new sheriff in town!

🥇 HIGH GUN – 1st Place
The new kid on the block, Rob Lewis, absolutely showed the old timers how it’s done with a jaw-droppingly impressive 96/100! 🤯🔥

Rob takes home £60 and, more importantly, appears to be making a serious move for Ian’s crown.

Is this the beginning of a changing of the guard at Bebside Sporting Clays? 👑😂
Has Ian finally met his match?
Or was Rob’s 96 just beginner’s luck?!

Only time will tell… but we suspect Ian may already be polishing his excuses for next Sunday! 🤣

A huge thank you as well to all of our members who helped out today, both setting up before the shoot and packing everything away afterwards. Events like this don’t happen without people giving up their time, and we really appreciate it. 💪

🎉 HAPPY 75th BIRTHDAY, BOB! 🎉

Today we’d like to wish our very own Bob Turnbull a very happy 75th birthday! 🥳🍰

As you can see from the photo, Bob is absolutely thrilled about seeing you all tomorrow… or at least we think that’s what that award-winning smile means! 😁💨 (Although some are suggesting it might just be wind…)

At 75 years young, Bob is still doing his bit for the club — and then some! Quite honestly, Bebside Sporting Clays wouldn’t run without him. From his welcoming and friendly attitude to his endless hard work behind the scenes, Bob is one of those people who is simply part of the furniture… admittedly, very old furniture now! 😂

So why not come along tomorrow, Bank Holiday Monday 31/8/26, for our 100 Target Open Shoot and wish the birthday boy well in person.

We’re sure Bob will be there to greet you with his usual warm welcome, friendly banter and that famous smile… whether it’s genuine happiness or just trapped wind remains open to debate! 💨🤣

Our busy August is nearly over, but there’s still one BIG shoot to go… and it’s the highlight of our summer calendar! 🔥

What. A. Day. 🤘🏽🏆

Today we hosted the Tri County 5-Man Team Shoot at Bebside, and what a turnout! The weather was absolutely spot on ☀️, the targets were entertaining, challenging and, most importantly, made you THINK. 🎯

The Sportrap was bang in the sweet spot — not too easy, not too hard, just enough to have everyone thinking, “Surely a straight is there…” 😏

🥇 High Gun — Rob Lewis, 45/50

Rob was tied on 45 with Lee Curry, but took the High Gun on countback. Commiserations Lee… so close! 😜

And Rob wasn’t finished there…

💰 Rob Lewis also took the £75 High Gun prize on the Sportrap with a cracking 24/25! 🎯🔥

A special mention to Louise Gibbs, who shot a fantastic 44/50. Brilliant shooting, Louise! 👏🏼

🏆 Tri County Team Trophy Winners — Marne Shooting Ground

Well… that was batsh*t crazy. 😂

There were multiple clays in the air at the same time and, in amongst the carnage, I’m fairly sure there were moments when people weren’t entirely sure whether they were shooting the targets or just firing at whatever was currently passing their face! 🤣

I would have slowed it down… but by the time we realised it needed slowing down, it was already too late.

Talk about closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. 🐎💨😂

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who came along and supported the shoot. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces and, just as importantly, plenty of new ones.

To all the new shooters who joined us today — we really hope you enjoyed your day and that we’ll see you back at Bebside again soon. 👍🏼
