Guard passing concepts

I speak about this a lot when teaching guard passing.

Pass to the right. Your opponents left.

Reason? 95% of people will play guard on their right hip.

My analogy, they will be a black belt on one side but they won't be a black belt on the other. Which side should you choose?

I have hit this countless times at black belt. It works.

The example here, I passed in under 20 seconds using that exact concept.

Well done everyone who competed at Empire today!

Some top performances with some cool submissions!

Dan Watts, Gold in Gi, Silver in No Gi. He got a few subs including a mothers milk and a baratoplata. Stuff we have been doing in classes 😎

Ben Lunt - Silver in Gi won one lost one. Competed in No Gi and got a nice Mother's milk sub in a consolation matcg. Ben hasn't been well the last 2 weeks so it was great to see him step up with limited training.

Rehaan Farrukh - Bronze in Gi, won one lost one.
Silver on No Gi - Rehaan has been competing lots recently and is showing loads of improvements. Well done Rehaan!

Edgar - 2 matches, won one, lost one. He came up against a blue belt. Lots of experience gained and still only young. Plenty of potential for Edgar!

Thanks to Dan Watts for the reporting and coaching today. Team work 🥋

We have looked at this in class recently, when you get the back. It should be game over. Control position, predict their escapes, adjust.

Finishing, we have been looking at using your own lapel in the kids classes to get the finish. This time round, the opponent grabbed my lapel with both hands, this meant I could switch to his own lapel with zero defense. Give it a try 📝

Losing a super close final on Advantages.

Ashlie is a true product of the system. She started her Jiu Jitsu her and has continued to collect some of the biggest accolades at her level.

This adds to her Silver from Brazil earlier in the year. We are gunning for that gold. It will come!
