Ricky Hatton: A Fighter, A Friend, A Legend

Today, we remember Ricky Hatton—a man who gave everything to boxing, to Manchester, and to the UK. His passing has left a deep void in the sport and in the hearts of those who knew him.

Ricky was more than a world champion. He was a symbol of grit, humility, and pride. From Stockport to Las Vegas, he carried Manchester with him, inspiring millions through his unforgettable career and his dedication to Hatton’s Gym. He made boxing accessible, real, and deeply personal.

But boxing doesn’t just build champions—it can break them too.

Ricky spoke openly about his battles with depression, addiction, and the emotional toll of life after the ring. His courage in sharing those struggles helped others feel less alone. It also reminded us that mental health support for fighters must continue long after their final bout.

He was a close friend to Amir Khan and Bob Shannon, and a familiar face at both Round4Round and the Amir Khan Academy. He mentored young fighters, gave his time generously, and remained a true ambassador for the sport.

Ricky Hatton made Manchester proud. He made the UK proud. He made boxing great.

His legacy lives on in every fighter who steps into the ring with heart, and in every young person he inspired to rise above their circumstances.

Rest in peace, Ricky. You were one of a kind.

# # # 🄊 Why Boxing Should Be Added to the School Curriculum 🄊

Boxing isn't just about throwing punches; it's about building character, discipline, and resilience. Imagine a school curriculum where students not only excel academically but also develop life skills through the art of boxing. Here's why boxing deserves a place in our schools:

# # # # 1. **Physical Fitness and Health**
Boxing is a full-body workout that improves cardiovascular health, strength, and coordination. Incorporating boxing into the school curriculum can help combat the rising rates of childhood obesity and promote a healthy lifestyle from a young age.

# # # # 2. **Mental Toughness and Discipline**
Boxing teaches students to stay focused, manage stress, and develop a strong work ethic. These skills are invaluable both in and out of the classroom, helping students to face challenges head-on and persevere through difficulties.

# # # # 3. **Building Confidence and Self-Esteem**
Through boxing, students learn to set goals and achieve them, boosting their confidence and self-esteem. The sense of accomplishment from mastering a new skill or winning a match can translate into greater self-assurance in other areas of life.

# # # # 4. **Conflict Resolution and Respect**
Boxing instills a sense of respect for oneself and others. It teaches students to handle conflicts constructively and to respect their opponents, fostering a positive and respectful school environment.

# # # 🄊 Round4Round Boxing at the Amir Khan Academy 🄊

One shining example of the transformative power of boxing is the Round4Round program at the Amir Khan Academy in Bolton. This program has a proven track record of changing lives through boxing.

# # # # **Expertise and Experience**
Round4Round, led by experienced coaches and mentors, offers a comprehensive boxing program that goes beyond physical training. They focus on personal development, providing mentorship and guidance to help young people achieve their full potential¹(https://www.round4round.co.uk/).

# # # # **Case Studies of Transformation**
The impact of Round4Round is evident in numerous success stories. For instance, many at-risk youth have found a new sense of purpose and direction through the program. Parents have reported significant improvements in their children's behavior, academic performance, and overall well-being¹(https://www.round4round.co.uk/).

# # # 🄊 Conclusion 🄊

Adding boxing to the school curriculum can provide students with a unique opportunity to develop physically, mentally, and emotionally. Programs like Round4Round at the Amir Khan Academy demonstrate the profound positive impact that boxing can have on young lives. Let's champion the inclusion of boxing in schools and give our students the tools they need to succeed both in and out of the ring.

**šŸ•’ Master Your Time, Master Your Life 🄊**

Hey Champions! šŸ„‡ Nasir Akram here from Round4Round Boxing, sharing my top tips for success in time management and productivity. Let's get it! šŸ’Ŗ

**"We only have so many hours in a day, so why waste them on something that doesn’t matter?" - Marlon Brando**

Each day gives us 24 hours, but when broken down into the demands of daily life, the amount of time left for meaningful pursuits is shockingly small. Understanding this reality is essential to making better decisions about how to spend those hours.

As a Muslim, the 5 daily prayers offer a powerful framework for managing time and achieving blessings. Starting with the **Fajr prayer** every morning, these prayers help structure the day, instill discipline, and bring numerous benefits:

1. **Fajr (Pre-dawn) Prayer** šŸŒ…
- **Kickstart Your Day**: Waking up early for Fajr sets a positive tone for the day, promoting productivity and mindfulness from the very start.

2. **Dhuhr (Midday) Prayer** ā˜€ļø
- **Midday Break**: Taking a break for Dhuhr helps you recharge and refocus, preventing burnout and maintaining high energy levels.

3. **Asr (Afternoon) Prayer** šŸŒ‡
- **Afternoon Reflection**: Asr provides a moment to pause and reflect on the day's progress, allowing for adjustments and renewed focus.

4. **Maghrib (Sunset) Prayer** šŸŒ†
- **Evening Transition**: Maghrib marks the transition from day to evening, helping you unwind and prepare for the night ahead.

5. **Isha (Night) Prayer** šŸŒ™
- **End of Day Reflection**: Isha offers a chance to reflect on the day's achievements and set intentions for the next day, promoting a sense of closure and peace.

The truth is, time slips away quickly, often unnoticed. Each hour spent on activities that don’t align with personal goals or values is an hour lost forever. Brando’s words prompt an essential question: what truly matters? By examining the way time is currently spent, it becomes clear whether those hours contribute to a life of fulfillment or one of frustration.

Spending time wisely doesn’t mean filling every moment with productivity. It means prioritizing the things that bring joy, meaning, and purpose. Whether it’s investing in relationships, pursuing a passion, or taking steps toward long-term goals, the hours spent on these things offer lasting rewards that distractions or superficial pursuits cannot.

The key is not about doing more, but about doing what matters. Say no to obligations that drain energy without adding value. Limit distractions that steal time without offering anything meaningful in return. Replace mindless habits with activities that enrich life, whether that’s spending time with loved ones, learning something new, or simply enjoying a moment of stillness.

Time is finite. Every hour matters, and every choice shapes the life being created. Brando’s wisdom is a call to action—a reminder to stop and assess how those hours are being used. Living with intention doesn’t require a drastic overhaul; it simply requires awareness. By recognizing the value of each hour and choosing to spend them on things that truly matter, life becomes not just busy, but meaningful.
