Today Westhoughton Rangers under 10s faced a very solid Cherrybrook Avengers side in the semi finals of the cup.
It wasn’t meant to be today with a narrow defeat following two kick in goals by Cherrybrook.
We were unfortunately unable to breach the Cherrybrook side with our best chance a fantastic effort by Hattie which was palmed wide.
All the players have been fantastic again this season and everyone associated should be proud of this great group.
Players of the Match.
🏆 Coach Gary gave his player of the match to Christian for some good early saves
🏆 Coach Paul gave his player of the match to Alistair who was defensively fantastic and made sole crucial tackles to keep the opponents at bay.
Good luck to Avengers in the final and we will go again next year.

Today our under 10s faced a strong Ashton Athletic side at home.
The game started tensely and this was a sign of things to come.
Ashton were quick out of the blocks and had an early chance one on one which was well smothered by Christian.
Shortly after this Isaac was denied by a good save from the Ashton Keeper. From the resulting corner the ball dropped to Eddie who laid the ball to the left for Hattie who hit a smart left foot shot. The ball cannoned off both posts and into the net for the lead.
Shortly after this Rangers again had a corner which was lofted in and Noah acrobatically attempted an overhead kick. Really good effort which went wide.
Into the second half the game remained close. Both teams had decent chances forcing smart saves from the goalkeepers but Rangers managed to hold out for the narrow win.
Albert played the central midfield role perfectly and kept to his task all game.
The whole team worked their socks off today with a reduced squad due to the holiday term.

Player of the Match 🏆
🏆Sesei was brilliant in defence. He played solidly throughout and showed some silky skills to go with the clean sheet that he worked tirelessly to gain.
🏆 Eddie was superb getting two goals and three assists. The pick of the e bunch being a smart volley from a fantastic Isaac corner. Once again brilliant at the back also contributed highly to the clean sheet.
🏆 Albert once again was sublime. Scored two and assisted three with the pick of the bunch being his solo goal in the second half. Albert also contributed to the clean sheet with a great goal line clearance.
Player of the match could have gone to any of the 8 players tonight.
Big shout out to Shevington who never gave up and had some good phases of play and very nearly got themselves a few goals but for the resilient defending by the Rangers.

Today we faced a very well drilled Robin Park side away from home coached by the legendary ex Goose Green Left winger Richie Livingstone who could quite easily be mistaken for Forrest Gump at the end of the movie.
It was Robin Park who started off the better of the two teams with some good early chances and they took one after about 15 minutes. The forward was slotted through and he struck the ball past Christian into the bottom right corner.
However Rangers hit back quick. A good trike from outside the area was parried but Albert was quick to get onto it and cut it back for Isaac who tapped it in.
All things even at the break but again Robin Park came out firing. They had a chance clean through which Christian managed to scupper and Alistair got back to clear the rebound off the line.
Again Robin Park had another chance clean through on goal with their number 8 causing us problems. Luckily Christian was there to another the shot with another one on one save.
A smart corner from Robin park saw the next goal as the ball came out to them on the edge of the box which was slammed into the bottom left corner.
A great move by rangers nearly saw the equaliser as Isaac Jacob and Casper combined to set up Eddie who had a shot well saved from 6 yards.
At 2-1 Robin Park had a great chance on the left as they struck a shot towards goal which had Christian flying to his right to tip it onto the post.
With 6 minutes left Alistair was fouled and we had a free kick on half way. Eddie stepped up and smashed it and despite the keepers great effort it went in.
Both teams were going for it and with 3 minutes left a good move down the left saw a ball
Into the area by Jacob tapped into the goal by Casper past the onrushing keeper.
Westhoughton managed to hold on in a match which could have gone either way but today was a great advertisement for the quality shown in the Wigan District league.

The opponents too the lead with a smart finish from number 25 who caused us problems all game.
Noah then went close with a volley from a smart corner routine.
Just before the break Jacob was fouled and Eddie smashed a free kick into the roof of the net from half way out.

With our backs against the wall Rangers got lucky with a deflected corner from Casper creeping its way into the goal.
