Storms vs Cherrybrook – Match Report
A tough outing for the Storms this week against Cherrybrook.
Preparation was a key factor in this one and unfortunately we didn’t get it right from the start. We were slow out of the blocks and that lack of early focus set the tone, with Cherrybrook taking control and building a 3–0 lead in the first half.
After a strong and honest chat at halftime, the response from the boys was outstanding. A brilliant 10-minute spell saw us lift the intensity, play with purpose and fight our way back to level the scores showing exactly what this team is capable of when we’re switched on.
However, after doing the hard work to get back into the game, we couldn’t maintain that standard. We slipped back into poor positional play, and it proved costly as Cherrybrook regained control and secured the win.
A special mention to Jett, whose outstanding performance earned him both Man of the Match and Parents’ Player. A true heart of a lion effort leading from the front and never taking a backward step.
A disappointing result, but a clear reminder that preparation and consistency are key.
We’ve seen the level we can reach ,now it’s about bringing that from the first whistle.
We go again 💪

Storms vs Horwich Cobras
Storms took the win ⚽️
Today Storms welcomed Horwich Cobras, and from the very first whistle the team looked ready to play and determined to win.
Storms took the lead in the first minute and continued to press high and play some fantastic football. The movement, positional play and passing as a team were brilliant to watch. Despite creating many chances in the first half, Storms went into the break leading 1–0.
The second half started just as strongly, with Storms continuing their excellent attacking play. Seeing an Under-9s team play with such teamwork, confidence and effort was something to be really proud of. The goals soon began to flow and Storms went on to take a comfortable lead with several well worked goals.
A big mention as well to the rest of the team, who all played their part in a fantastic performance. The effort, teamwork and quality shown across the whole pitch made it a really strong team display ,exactly what football is all about. Love to see it! 👏⚽
MOTM – Amaan
What a performance! He was everywhere on the pitch today, showing great positional awareness and work rate. He even grabbed himself a goal and stepped in to play in net as well. A true team player today – well done mate! 👏
Parents’ Player – Marcel
An amazing display. His hold-up play and attacking effort were outstanding, and his hat-trick certainly didn’t go unnoticed. Brilliant performance , well done pal! ⚽⚽⚽
Marcel ⚽️⚽️⚽️
Amaan ⚽️
Luca ⚽️
Harry ⚽️
Joshua Kitchens – End of an Era with the Storms 💙⚽️
Josh’s story with the Storms started way back at U7s when we first met in the Blackburn League. It didn’t take long to realise that Josh was a perfect fit for the storms and we welcomed him with open arms as our goalkeeper and what a keeper he was 🧤
Like most kids playing in goal, he eventually got bored of the position! 😄 Josh then moved outfield and embraced a new challenge. It wasn’t always easy for him, as some players were further ahead in their development with more time on the pitch, but Josh worked incredibly hard and showed real determination to be just as good.
His attitude and commitment didn’t go unnoticed, and he was recognised for his improvement and mentality by being awarded Most Improved Player of the U8 season 🏆a moment that showed just how far he had come.
Josh’s personality is unforgettable. His humour and silliness are something else… but honestly, we wouldn’t want him any other way! 😂
Joshua and his family’s commitment over the last three years has been incredible. Travelling from Blackburn twice a week is a huge effort, and we know that kind of commitment eventually catches up with any family. We completely understand the decision and appreciate everything they have given to the team.
We wish Josh all the very best with his new local team. We’re sure he’ll continue to leave his mark wherever he goes.
Stay in touch, Joshua it would be great to see you again soon, pal. 💙

⚽ Match Report – The Storms vs Astley Bridge ⚽
The Storms headed up to Astley Bridge for their morning game. With a bit of healthy rivalry in the air and some of the kids playing together on their Sunday teams — it made for a really fun and enjoyable match.
The Storms unfortunately did their usual slow start, and as a coach I’m always trying to get them to adapt quicker. Within a matter of minutes the boys found themselves 2–0 down.
But credit to the lads they dug deep and started playing some fantastic football. Working together and moving the ball well, they battled their way back into the game and even managed to go a goal ahead.
Right in the final minute though, Astley Bridge produced a great strike to level things up and the match finished all square. A brilliant, competitive game and plenty of positives to take away. 👏
⭐ Parents’ Player – Albie
A big threat up top today and brings something the Storms sometimes miss — physicality. Albie bagged a great goal and added an assist, but it was his hold-up play that really stood out. Top performance.
⭐ Manager’s Player – Ayaan
What a baller! Astley Bridge couldn’t get near him today. Ayaan was a constant threat alongside Albie with his pace, skills and low centre of gravity. A real joy to watch at this age.
Well done to all the boys great effort and great football. 💙⚽

⚽🥅 Goalie Wars Tournament – What a Day! 🥅⚽
The Storms hosted their very own Goalie Wars Tournament today, raising funds for the season ahead — and what a brilliant day it was!
Ten top keepers battled it out across two groups, with end-to-end action in the group stages. Each keeper played four 8-minute matches, and the standard was incredible from start to finish.
Only eight keepers could progress to the knockout rounds, where the competition stepped up another level. After four intense quarter-finals and two brilliant semi-finals, the grand final was set:
Jacob representing Turton vs Freddie representing Cherrybrook.
What a final it was. Two top-class keepers giving absolutely everything. Of course it was close… and of course it went to sudden death! It really could have gone either way, but after around five minutes of sudden death, Jacob found the back of the net to take the win and lift the Golden Glove trophy. 🏆
A fantastic day full of talent, effort and great sportsmanship. It was brilliant to see new friendships forming on and off the pitches — that’s what grassroots football is all about.
Well done to all the keepers who took part and a huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported the event.
We can’t wait to host the next one! 👏

The storms headed up to mossbank today in which from the first whistle We looked disciplined, confident on the ball and calm in possession. The lads trusted each other, played out properly and worked hard for one another. It was proper team football ,everyone doing their job and doing it well. Moss bank didn’t have much time on the ball today with storms dominating all game with excellent finishing and keeping a clean sheet 😮💨💪🏻

Henry (CM/GK)Outstanding. Pulled off a world-class save in the first half tipping onto the bar and was excellent playing out from the back —, calm and brave in possession.
Harry (CB)Mr Reliable — Becoming a real leader and put in some class tackles again today.

Armann (CM)Magnificent. Listened, worked incredibly hard and covered every blade of Astro for the team.

Marcell (CF)The target man. Hold-up play was unreal and caused serious problems for the opposition all game.

What a Day for the Team! 💥⚽
Competing over in Doncaster in astern miners u9 medium/high league table cup , different from what we was use to ,no knockouts just plenty of fast pace games earning as many points to get to the top for the cup 🏆
A slow start may have cost us early on, but traveling 80+ miles to face unknown teams and coming away with 3rd place is something to be proud of! 👏
💫 Class all over the pitch today , plenty of goals from Luca and Ayan, who are already looking like a top class partnership. Some brilliant wing play too ,especially loved Marcel’s goal with that cheeky foot roll around the keeper! 🔥
🧤 Albie came up clutch with a huge save in the dying seconds to seal third place, and we had a rock-solid defence midfield all day with Isla, Josh, Harry, and Raife. Relentless work from Henry and Carter on the wings , nonstop energy!
Honestly, the team that won it? We outplayed them when we faced them. And that second game? We didn’t lose it – we just hit the post one too many times!
Incredible work from everyone – players, coaches, and parents. The team spirit was unreal today. Let’s keep building! 💪💙
