WHY HAVEN’T YOU RECOVERED YET?
An injury is only one part of the recovery process.
Two people can have the same injury, follow a similar rehab programme, and still recover at completely different rates. Why? Because recovery is influenced by much more than the injured tissue.
🏋️ LOAD
Too much, too soon can continue to aggravate symptoms. Too little may not provide enough stimulus to rebuild capacity. Finding the appropriate level and progressing it over time is key.
😴 SLEEP
Sleep supports physical recovery, pain regulation, cognitive function and performance. Poor sleep can influence how we respond to training and how we experience pain.
🧠 STRESS
Psychological and social factors can influence pain, recovery and our ability to engage with rehabilitation. This doesn’t mean pain is “all in your head” — it means recovery is more complex than tissue alone.
🥗 NUTRITION
Adequate energy and nutrient intake provides the resources required to support tissue repair, training adaptation and general recovery.
🏃 TRAINING
Rehab isn’t simply about making an injury feel better. It’s about progressively rebuilding strength, capacity and function.
🎯 EXPOSURE
Being pain-free doesn’t automatically mean you’re ready for your sport or activity. Your body needs to gradually experience the demands you’ll eventually need to tolerate.
The goal isn’t simply to get rid of pain. It’s to rebuild capacity.
Recovery is multifactorial — and sometimes the missing piece isn’t the injury itself.
Evidence-informed. Individual assessment and rehabilitation should consider the person, the injury and their specific demands.
