Niall’s Match Report
A rollercoaster of a game for the Hedgehogs, featuring some good attacking football, plenty of drama, solid goalkeeping, strong set peices and plenty of twists and turns.
The Hedgehogs started brightly and opened the scoring with Myolie launching a counterattack before finding Annalise, who finished with real composure. Excellent communication between the pair.
The Hedgehogs took control and continued to pile on the pressure, with Myolie, Annalise and Avie all denied by the opposition goalkeeper. Iris also went close, forcing the goalkeeper to make another early save.
But football is never that straightforward and after failing to capitalise on their early dominance, the opposition began to find their feet, forcing Norah into a smart save with her legs before a couple of momentary switch-offs allowed the opposition the lead.
Norah was needed again, producing a full-stretch diving save to deny another dangerous effort. Just before the break, Mettisse restored parity, turning home Hannah's well delivered corner.
At HT the Hedgehogs were wondering quite how they weren't ahead after playing some good football.
The second half brought more of the same. Myolie and Mettisse scored, the latter as a result of reading a pass brilliantly in midfield, intercepting, driving forward and finishing superbly past the advancing keeper. No assistance required!
In what was becoming a pattern the opposition hit back again and Avie and Myolie scored late on from corners. Imogen was excellent throughout, stifling opposition attacks.
A fantastic attacking performance against a strong opposition side who played their part in an entertaining contest. What was particularly pleasing was the variety of goals and the contributions from across the team. From quick counterattacks and clever passing, to determined individual efforts and well-worked set pieces, the Hedgehogs showed lots of attacking cohesion - displaying movement, awareness and willingness to create chances for one another. Clear signs of a team developing a great understanding together.
