We won’t be seeing Kez at training today because he’s off representing England at the Para Hockey World Cup! 🏑🌍 What makes it even more special is that Kez only recently earned his 2nd Kyu with us! 🥋👏
What a start to the World Cup — they’ve already beaten India 🇮🇳 and Argentina 🇦🇷, with Bulgaria 🇧🇬 and Spain 🇪🇸 up next on Friday, followed by Chile 🇨🇱 and Malaysia 🇲🇾 on Saturday, and the Netherlands 🇳🇱 on Sunday.

What a weekend! 🥋 Our annual Rumble Competition was another huge success, with 230 entries and 215 competitors taking to the mat on the day. From 4yr olds competing for the very first time, right through to experienced competitive Dan grades, it was fantastic to see judoka of all ages and abilities giving their best.

Impressively, the entire event was completed by 4pm... a testament to the incredible teamwork, organisation and dedication of everyone involved. Events like this don't just happen. They take weeks of planning, countless hours of preparation, and the practical work the day before – collecting mats, sorting entries to make sure everyone has a suitable category, transporting equipment, and setting everything up ready for competition day. A huge thank you goes to all of our amazing members, friends and volunteers who gave up their time to make the event possible. Those who refereed, officiated, provided first aid, ran the café, managed the podium, worked on top table, welcomed people at the door, helped set up or packed everything away, events like this simply wouldn't happen without you. 30 incredible volunteers. We are also incredibly grateful for the support from clubs across the area, BJC and BJA who came together to help make the day such a success.

Finally, congratulations to our club members and every single competitor. Whether it was your very first competition, you're an experienced competitor, or somewhere in between, you all showed courage, determination and great judo. We saw so many personal achievements throughout the day, and we couldn't be prouder of every one of you.

Thank you for making Rumble 2026 such a memorable day. Until next time... see you on 11th July 2027!... or our Kata competition this Sunday or newaza competition on 11th October.🥋

A reminder that entry is now open, to our popular Shizentai Rumble. Suitable for absolute beginners and experianced judoka, adaptive judoka supported and where possible, adaptive catagories created. Age 4+. Entry is due to close on Friday 10th July, however it useally closes early due to demand.
Same venue, same set up, 3 mat areas, new medal design.

Due to the exceptionally high temperatures today and the fact that the dojo does not have air conditioning, we have made the decision to cancel the children's sessions.

The youth and senior session (ages 14+) will still go ahead as planned, this includes Kata at 7.30pm and Youth/Seniors at 8.30pm. We will have fans running in the hall to help with airflow, and judoka are welcome to train without their gi jacket if they wish, provided they are comfortable doing so (please wear a white round neck tshirt).

For adult members, attendance is entirely your choice. Please consider how you are feeling, your fitness level, and how well you cope with training in hot conditions before deciding whether to attend.

The decision to cancel the children's class has been made with the safety and wellbeing of our younger members in mind. Younger children can be more susceptible to the physiological effects of heat, and we feel it is sensible to reduce the risk of overheating during today's warm conditions and our present enviroment.

If you do attend the youth and senior session, please ensure you are well hydrated before training and bring plenty of water with you.

We are liaising with the new building management company and will discuss air conditioning as part of this.

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting a brilliant Katame-no-Kata course on Sunday.

A huge well done to everyone who took part, whether you were developing your knowledge and skills or undertaking an assessment. The standard, commitment and enthusiasm on display throughout the day were fantastic to see.

Thank you to everyone, for making it such a successful event. We look forward to seeing you all again soon on the mat!
