Our U11 Ambers were back in action this weekend taking on Yaxley at home.
With only seven players available due to the 11+, it was always going to be a different game to that of last week. The team knew they were going to have to work hard for each other, manage the game intelligently and show plenty of character.
The first half saw some really good football. We moved the ball well at times, created some excellent opportunities and showed plenty of attacking intent. There were some really good passages of play, with the Pilgrims looking to get forward whenever the opportunity was there. Unfortunately, the final ball into the box was missing that little bit of quality. On another day, we could have created even more clear-cut opportunities and put ourselves in a stronger position.
As the game went on, we weren't quite as quick to retrieve the ball back nor get back into our shape, and there were times when we were a little sloppy in possession, giving the ball away when we could have kept it and made Yaxley work harder.
That said, the biggest positive was the attitude and effort shown by the team. The team continued to battle right until the final whistle. In these circumstances, against a team with more options available, it is very easy to let your heads drop — but the team kept going and continued to try and play our football.
🏆 Opposition POTM – Ralph
Ralph thoroughly deserved this recognition for his hard graft throughout the game. He was constantly looking to get on the ball, make things happen and create opportunities for the team. His work rate never dropped, and he showed a fantastic attitude from start to finish. Never giving up, always looking for the next opportunity and playing with a real desire to help the team. A great performance, Ralph!
🏆 Manager's POTM – Zac
Zac was strong at the back, showing his physical qualities and battling mindset throughout the game. He worked incredibly hard to try and stop the opposition, competed for every ball and put his body on the line when needed. But it wasn't just his defensive work — whenever he got the ball, Zac tried to be positive and move us forward. A strong all-round performance and thoroughly deserved. 👏
Not the result we wanted, but plenty to take away from the game. The players showed character, determination and a willingness to keep playing. It identified areas for improvement, particularly our speed in winning the ball back, being cleaner in possession and adding that extra bit of quality to the final ball — but there were also some really encouraging football. The team gave everything they had, and that's all we can ask for. We learn, we improve and we go again! 🧡🖤⚽️
