Bourne Town Bowls Club

The Club Competition 2026 Finals were played on Saturday 29th August despite the the persistent rain which made is a challenge for players and spectators alike.

The Singles Final, between Chris Davidson and Elizabeth Johnson, proved a close fought game with both players bowling some outstanding woods. It was nip and tuck all the way until the score was 18-18, when a win beckoned tantalisingly for each player. In a dramatic last end Chris managed to score three shots giving him the win, 21-18. It was an entertaining game to watch for the hardy souls who came to support the finalists.

After a chance to rest … and to dry out! … Elizabeth was back on the green for the Pairs Final, partnered with Denise Mackie. They took on Darren Lightbody and Jen Middleditch. The weather got worse with water beginning to puddle on parts of the green. Incredibly this was another very close game with all the players bowling their (very wet) socks off! The score was very close with Elizabeth and Denise keeping their noses in front until the 16th end when Darren and Jen took the lead to go 11-10 in front, they then took two shots on the 17th and three on the 18th to secure the win 16-10.

A big thank you to all the finalists for playing so well under such wet conditions and making it an enjoyable afternoon for the spectators. And thanks also to David Donovan for his sterling work as Marker for the Singles Final.

🌟 COUNTY REPRESENTATIVES 2026 🌟

Bourne Town Bowls Club is incredibly proud to celebrate three of our members who have represented Lincolnshire this year.

🔵 Freddie Knapp, aged just 14, represented the Bowls Lincolnshire Under 24 team.

🔵 Julie Allen represented the Bowls Lincolnshire Ladies EBA team and the Lincolnshire EBF team.

🔵 Val Thompson, aged 83, represented the Lincolnshire EBF team.

With Freddie aged 14 and Val aged 83, they prove that bowls truly is a sport for everyone—whatever your age!

Congratulations to Freddie, Julie and Val on these fantastic achievements. You have represented Bourne Town Bowls Club and Lincolnshire with great pride. 👏

The inaugural Dick Salmon Trophy was played on Sunday 19 July in honour of Dick who died last year at the age of 99.

Thirty eight bowlers took part in a fixed jack competition hoping to win the magnificent trophy donated by Dick's family. The successful bowler was Julian Wheel with a score of 104 out of a possible 140. He was presented with the trophy by Dick's son, Mike, who added a copy of one of his Dad's books as a bonus prize.

Lynne Mclean was second with 97 points and Dave Hankin third with 96.

The fine weather helped to make it a thoroughly enjoyable day for all those taking part, plus over £200 was raised for Dick's favourite charity, the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.

It was a very successful day, twenty eight teams competing and the weather was kind to us. The sponsor of the Gala, Tom Hames of Origin Storage, was on hand to present the prizes to the successful teams :

A few pictures from the Bourne Town BC 2026 GALA

Well done to Keith Turner for winning the Paul Finch memorial trophy event today. 26 members turned up to play in the very hot afternoon sun. There was a few that withdrew due to the heat.

The organisers Peter Marshall and Steve Froy decided to finish after 3 games, due to to concerns for bowlers health during this hot afternoon. Good decision!

This gave a chance to play a spid3r won by Peter Marshall and have a drink and cake supplied by Faye Finch. Well done everyone who played, assisted and organised the event.

World and National Champion visits Bourne Town Bowls Club.

BTBC members watched a match between Dominic McVittie & his pairs partner in the mixed pairs Lincolnshire section 4.

Julie and Phil played well keeping the score even up to the last few ends. Final score was 12- 15 to Dominic & Keira.

Good luck to Keira and Dom in the next round.
