Baby Squids Bournemouth and Poole

To support RLSS’s Drowning prevention week, next weeks theme is 'safety', which is such an important part of our classes. Every child, even the splashers, work on this as part of each class, but this week we are having a special focus on it.

We want to help children learn to respect the water, practise lifesaving safety skills, and all whilst enjoying a lifetime of fun.

So we will be practising our skills with holding on, safely entering the water, monkeying around the pool, floating on our backs, and much more!

THEME OF THE WEEK

We are really looking forward to our Stations theme for next week's classes!

This is a great opportunity to spend some time with your little one at each of our 'stations' in the pool. Your teacher will be on hand to support you and give you ideas for activities. All whilst you connect with your little one, explore some free play, experiment, and maybe even try something new.

Great things can sometimes happen from these sessions by letting your children lead the way. Watch, wait, wonder! We love to see the children's take on our stations and are amazed by their wonderful imaginations and exploration.

📢 Theme of the Week

Turns! Such a big safety skill to include in our classes.

We want to encourage holding on, turning to the wall and safe places from entering the water, so lots of practising this week.

🏝️ Can you believe that the last half term before the summer holiday is nearly upon us?

💦 We look forward to helping you get ready for those splashy holidays in our lovely Ferndown pool during our June and July half term.

This week our focus switches to 'water flow' which is one of our favourite themes as we love seeing children mesmerised with something as simple as flowing water. Sprinkling, pouring, splashing and trickling, water play doesn’t have to be loud and busy, it can be a tranquil activity where children can be quietly absorbed, allowing them to unwind, order their thoughts and relax.

Water flow is great in the bath or paddling pool and can also improve motor skills, hand eye coordination, pouring and measuring skills 🪣💦

We can't wait to get our legs moving next week with our 'kicking' theme.

We will have lots of fun activities lined up to help support this key swimming skill.

Spring is on its way 🌷 and to celebrate we will be springing with both feet into this week's themed class.

We won't be making you swim in pond water, but we will be having a lovely sprinkling of Spring themed ideas throughout the week that we hope you enjoy 💜

Lots of fun next week in class with ‘Propulsion’ activities lined up to encourage your little ones to propel forward.

Although not all babies and children can do this themselves very easily in water, we as parents can encourage this with guided movement.

Expect to zoom, push, pull, reach and kick to travel through the water!

Next week’s theme of the week is slow and fast. We are adding a fun aspect to our classes with changing the speed of songs and activities. By slowing things down we can really step back and take time to let the children go at their own pace, and we will be speeding things up for a bit of fun and giggles.

These classes are suitable for babies from 2-6 months and will be with our awesome swimming teacher; Jasmin.

The theme next week will be "Hiding" 🙈

Looking for hidden objects and
hiding is great for cognitive learning and problem solving.

Peek-a-boo and hiding games are fun ways for us to interact with babies in the pool and great ways to teach them about object permanence, that an object is still there even though it can't be seen! This can also help with separation anxiety.
