This young man, 8 yrs old learning to play directions. 3 colored cones at each end. Red to red central forehand, yellow to yellow cross court forehand, white to white cross court backhand. Be patient as they learn, and repeat often. If you control the ball you can control your opponent.
If you can force the short ball from your opponent, you have the green light 🟢 to attack. Learn to play an aggressive shot from either wing. Over time this weapon will develop into winners for you .
With young players let them learn closer to the net to get success of the ball going in. Spend time to allow the kids to develop their technique before moving back towards the baseline.

Not sure I achieved it, but I had fun trying🙂. The very windy conditions didn't help, but that's just excuses! 🤣🤣
Patterns in matchplay can definitely improve your results. Consistency is the key and shot selection a close second. If you practice this pattern you will choose the right shot more often. Keep the cross court shots deep and wait until you get a short ball to attack down the line.
For all court play, and especially if you play doubles, spend time working in the service boxes. Make your opponents spaced to give you the ball.
