The focus of Saturday’s practice was letting go. In the physical practice this can be seen as releasing physical tension or easing away from tightness.
However, the asana practice (postures) are just one of the eight limbs of Yoga. Another of these limbs are the Yamas which are social ethics, with the 5th and final Yama, being Aparigraha - translated as non-covetousness or non-grasping; and encompasses the idea that we can easily wish to hold on items or ideas too tightly.
This may be present when we have expectations of how our practice should look, or when we hold firm to ideas of who we, or the people around us, are. Aparigraha asks us to be more flexible and invite the space that comes with letting go, to see what might take its place, knowing that what you are holding on to may be holding you back.
Keeping the idea of Aparigraha and the intention of letting go, can you release your grasp on how you think the poses should look, and focus on the present moment of your breath where each exhale provides space for a new inhale.
