Thanks to everyone who came along to our open day. We raised just shy of £300 for Dorothy House, gained several new members and everyone had a lot of fun and learned the basics about our fantastic sport.

Short Croquet (SC) is a variant of Association Croquet played on a half-sized lawn with minor rule changes which keep the games short. Last week our team of Peter, Carl, Martin and Bob (left to right) travelled to Nailsea to play in a one-day tournament organized by the Southwest Federation. Organised like the group stages of a football World Cup, we played our opposite numbers in 4 other teams, from Nailsea, Weston-Supe-Mare, Budleigh Salterton and Camerton-and-Peasedown. Despite very unforgiving hoop settings, I am pleased to report that all four won at least 2 of their games and we came out with 12 wins out of 16, topped our division, gained promotion for next year and received a magnificent trophy.

Last weekend saw a dozen BOA Croquet Club members head Southwest for some early season friendly games at two different clubs. After a day of travel and tourism, when six of the group visited the Eden Project, we grouped up at our exclusive accommodation before an excellent evening dinner and very little talk of technique or tactics.
We spent Saturday as guests of the Cornwall Croquet Club at St Austell where our warm hosts provided both Association and Golf Croquet games for us to compete in. The sun shone, the view toward the moors was lovely and a great time was had. For those that were counting, we won the AC but lost in GC. (Quite heavily!) We celebrated this nicely balanced result with beers and a fish supper at Poldark’s harbour, of Charleston
On Sunday we moved to the North Coast and the lovely location of the Bude Croquet Club. Overlooking the sea and with lawns that have a hint of the sand dunes about them we played GC with “Advantage” scoring which was a first for most of us. Again, the sun shone and our hosts were delightful, friendly and helpful. The result, overall, was close with wins and losses on both sides. The scores were not recorded so we called it a draw.
In summary, the tour was a great success. We had fun, got some practice and experienced the nerves associated with playing “Away”. All aims were achieved and we should do it again.

We're just 5 weeks away from our open day where we invite everyone to come and try the wonderful sport that is croquet!
It's fun, it's sociable and it can be (just a little bit) competitive!
We're raising money for Dorothy House too so another great reason to come along and have a cuppa and a slice of cake!
