Our league season is on summer break, so there’s never been a better time to try Rugby League here at Birkenshaw BlueDogs. Whether you’re brand new to the sport, looking for a fun activity, or ready to join a team – all sessions are completely free for the whole of August!

What a great experience for our girls yesterday visiting Everton Hill-Dickinson Stadium for day 1 of the Super League Magic Weekend 🏉

Thanks to Northern rail trains for making it happen 👏🏻 we had an amazing day made even better with a hassle free trip by train from Leeds Railway Station to Liverpool Lime Street Train Station and onto the Stagecoach shuttle buses 👌🏻

Lots of very tired but happy faces by the end of the day 💙

Birlenshaw u18’s girls V Shaw Cross u18’s girls

Birkenshaw hosted local rivals shaw cross in a very entertaining game Tuesday night at East Bierley
A big effort was needed to get the game on before with the first use of the new grass pitch and great fully Shaw Cross assisted in filling in the pesky rabbit holes before ko
The first 20 mins of the game was close with both sides completing there sets with hardly any mistakes or penalties before the deadlock was broken by the rampaging lolah vianikolo charging in for a 4 pointer
From the ko shaw cross worked hard and were reward with a converted try to take it to 4-6
Good pressure and field position enabled Martha to score a great try, converted by Imogen to take the half time score to 10-6
The second half ko and was a tense affair, shaw cross pushed the Birky defence for 2 repeat sets and managed to get over in the corner against a tired Birky defence to take the score to 10-10.
In the last 20 Birky worked hard and when Aneesha intercepted a pass she didn’t have the legs to finish and when the supporting Scarlett was pulled back off the ball, which the ref missed, stopped what would have been a certain try
Tempers began to fray and an all in brawl threatened to ruin an entertaining game. From the resulting penalty Neeve was held inches short with good work from the shaw cross defence from what looked a certain try
In the dying minutes a draw looked to be the result until the impressive Martha bust through to score the winning try 14-10.
An entertaining feisty game between two committed sides who are still all friends off the field (I think!) with player of the match going to Martha for her none stop full match performance in both attack and defence.
Special mention too to Poppy and Lilly Collins who really had a go and got stuck in, both playing more minutes than usual and showing so much improvement as the season has played out 💙🤍

On Thursday the girls travelled to Queensbury for a tough game in extremely hot conditions. 🌞

I can't fault the Girls at all for effort, they stuck at it to the Final whistle 🙌🏻
A shift in formation and no training for a while didn't help but plenty to build on!
Match Report is a bit different with a focus on the Girls Individual Performances.

Ebonie - absolute Brilliant performance again, really settling into the side!

Lucy - again a massive defensive effort, so solid on our wing! Sure she was carrying an injury for most of the game - but carried on!

Gracie - well done on making your Debut! Took immense run in 2nd half and I think your confidence has soared!

Stefana - getting better every Game! Lots more confident at Acting Half, Running the Ball & Contact in D!

Ava - great last night Kid, tough running Team without your 6 - but you gave your all! First dump tackle I've seen ya do!

Georgia-Rose - absolutely Brilliant again, not a backward step. Always available - 100% effort!

Indie - what can I say? Try scoring machine! Didn't get it all your own way last night - but my, you were everywhere! 💪🏻

Savannah - works so hard on & off the pitch! Always first up in line & another Good Performance in the middle of the pitch!

Rose - great to have you back! Stepped in to acting half when needed and a couple of great carries!

Ruby - well done on making your Debut! Great enthusiasm, always willing. Thought you were Briliant last night for your 1st Game!

Madison - RUBBISH 🗑🤣 Great last night for the Team! Used your Experience and did the 'hard stuff' on Attack & in D!

Harper - best game yet! Totally gaining in confidence and starting to get really involved!

Lots to learn from last nights Game & Work on as a TEAM - that is why we go Training 💪🏻
