Helping women understand why they're stuck in survival mode after emotionally damaging relationships. 🌿
✨ Somatic Trauma-Informed Coach💫

If you've ever thought "I know I should feel okay by now, so why don't I?"... this page is for you. 💚

I'm Kirsty! I am a social worker, trauma-informed coach, mum of five (yes, five! 🤣, and a beautiful granddaughter) and founder of Rising Roots.

Most days you'll find me talking about nervous systems, trauma, emotional abuse and healing... or trying to remember where I've left my phone thanks to ADHD. 😂

I've spent nearly 9 years as a social worker, supporting people through some of the most difficult times in their lives. But alongside that, I've also had my own journey of healing after narcissistic abuse and coercive control.

Somewhere along the way, I realised something that completely changed how I saw myself...

I wasn't broken. My nervous system was doing exactly what it had learned to do to keep me safe.

That one realisation changed everything. It led me to train as a somatic trauma-informed coach and create Rising Roots, where I help women understand why they're stuck in survival mode after emotionally damaging relationships.

Because when we understand why we feel the way we do, we can stop blaming ourselves and start healing with compassion instead 🫶

Healing doesn't have to feel heavy all the time. Life is hard enough already. I believe healing can also include laughter, hope and moments of joy.

Sometimes it's learning why your heart races.
Sometimes it's finally understanding why you can't switch off.

Sometimes it's getting out in nature, drinking ceremonial cacao, laughing at yourself because you've walked into the kitchen for the third time and forgotten why... and remembering that healing can include joy too. 🌿☕️

If you've found your way here, welcome. 💚

On this page you'll find honest conversations, simple explanations of the nervous system, practical tools to help you feel safer in your body, and gentle reminders that you're not broken, you've adapted.

I'd love to get to know you too...

What made you follow my page, or what would you love to understand more about yourself?

Long after the final whistle, many people remember the scores. Some women remember something very different.

They remember watching his face instead of the match. Listening to his breathing instead of the commentary. Counting every drink. Wondering which version of him would walk through the door.

Football doesn't cause domestic abuse. Alcohol doesn't cause domestic abuse.

But when abuse is already present, match days can become another time when fear grows.

And even years after leaving, the body can still respond as though the danger is there.

This is what survival mode can look like 💛

If this resonates with you, or helps you understand someone you care about, I'd love you to follow Rising Roots 🌳.

My mission is to help women understand why they're stuck in survival mode after emotionally damaging relationships, because understanding is often the first step towards healing💚

The way they breathed.

The way they walked.

The sound of the key turning in the door.

Your body braced before they even walked in.

Before they even walked through the door, you'd already replayed the question in your head a hundred different ways.

Should I ask now?

Should I wait?

Will this start an argument?

Can I say it differently?

Maybe I'll leave it.

Not because you were indecisive.

Because you were trying to work out whether it was safe.

If you're reading this thinking, "How does she know that?"

It's because so many women have lived it, even if nobody ever talks about it.
