W&G’s Match report- Queensbury CC Women's Softball (293/3) vs Brighouse CC Women’s Softball (299/1) - (Wed 18th June)

On a warm, stuffy evening at Brighouse Sports Club β€” the kind where just standing still feels like hard work β€” Queensbury's Women's Softball team went out and scored 108 runs chasing a target. Let that sink in. 🏏

Yes, the net score didn't go our way and we fell just 6 runs short on the day β€” but we're not dwelling on that. Not when there's THIS much to celebrate.

Queensbury elected to field first, and the bowling attack did their job. Special mention to Leanne, who was outstanding with the ball β€” conceding just 7 runs from her 2 overs β€” and Captain Karen who chipped in with the wicket. 🎯

Then came the chase β€” and what a chase it was:
🏏 Karen β€” 24 off 13 balls, five boundaries. Somebody had places to be!
🏏 Gail β€” 15 not out off 11 balls, cool as you like at the death
🏏 Alice β€” a solid 8 in the middle

108 runs across 16 overs. That's a run rate of 6.75 β€” more than a run a ball. On a warm, stuffy evening. Chasing. Remarkable. πŸ“ˆ

And we simply have to mention Emily β€” 12 years old, playing against adult women, taking a painful blow to the leg and absolutely refusing to let it stop her. That right there is the spirit of this team in a nutshell. πŸ‘πŸ»

Every single one of them should be incredibly proud of themselves β€” the coaches certainly are. πŸ™Œ

Under 15’s Match report- QCC (85/9) vs Low Moor (104/5)

QCC U15s fell to another disappointing defeat following an unsuccessful run chase at home to Low Moor.

The tone of the evening was set by coaches Dazzler confusing the toss, and a very sunburnt Matt turning up late after a day at Headingley.

On the field, Low Moor set about building a total with two of their first three batters retiring on 35.

Queensbury fielded well apart from a couple of reckless overthrows. Josh took catches of his own and Millie's bowling, while Veer and Ted also picked up wickets and Joe added an excellent run out.

Josh and Joe opened the batting and started the chase of 105 cautiously before Joe was caught off the toe of his bat.
Logan picked up the pace including a massive six into the field before finding the fielder with a similar shot.
Josh was LBW for for 12, then Oliver went for five leading to a regular fall of wickets as Queensbury fell short in their chase, finishing on 85/9 off their 20 overs.

Next week is the penultimate league game of the season, away to Northowram.

Under 9’s Match Report - QCC (263/5) vs Bradshaw (255/4) - (Sun 14th June)

IT'S HERE. THE FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON. πŸ†πŸ

We said it was coming. We said it was just around the corner. And on Sunday, this incredible group of kids went and did it, beating Bradshaw by 8 runs. We'll say that again. WE WON. πŸŽ‰

Batting first, Jacob Myers (16) and Jacob Maudsley (5) set the tone with a brilliant opening partnership of 21 and from there the whole team chipped in. Whether that was scoring runs OR, just as crucially, not losing their wicket (every wicket costs 5 runs, so keeping that number down matters more than people think!). End result? 88 on the board. A total to defend. πŸ’ͺ

And defend it they did:
🎯 Jacob Myers β€” 1 wicket
🎯 Gray β€” 1 wicket
πŸ™Œ Fielding all round β€” outstanding

With 8 runs to spare at the end, it wasn't even close. Well… it was. But we'll take it! πŸ˜„

πŸ† Player of the Match: Gray β€” outstanding in the field AND chipping in with a crucial wicket. Brilliant performance, thoroughly deserved!

Under 11’s Match Report - QCC (247/1) Vs Friarmere (332/5) - Mon 15th June.

We travelled to Friarmere CC with only 7 players this week. Losing the toss the opposition elected to bowl first.

All the team batted well against a good bowling attack. Bobby top scored with 14 and Charlie also got 10 runs. ⭐️ ⭐️ πŸŽ‰
The most pleasing thing last night was we only lost one wicket during the whole innings as a team finishing on a respectable 247.

The team tried their best but the opposition had some very good batters and took the points on the night. Taylor took 2 more wickets and Ben and Joel got 1 each. βοΈπŸŽ‰ There were also two stunning catches from both Bobby and Matthew.

Well done team πŸ’™πŸ’›

Under 15’s Match Report- QCC (108/6) vs Thornton (109/3) - Weds 10th June

The U15s lost by what one famous Kiwi commentator would describe as "the barest of margins" at Thornton last night.

True to form, Oliver lost his fifth toss of the season and again got his own way as the hosts chose to field first.

In a change to the order Josh opened with Logan and after seeing his opening partner fall early, set about building a partnership with Oliver who came in at three. It was then over to the skipper and keeper Harry P to keep up the momentum, adding 41 before Harry was unfortunately run out. Joe, Ted, Ishaan and Zac all played their part in pushing Queensbury to a challenging 108.

In reply Thornton started slowly, losing their opener for three to a Logan delivery that broke the stump.

Queensbury fielded exceptionally again and the bowlers kept a disciplined line with Ted picking up a wicket on his return and Oliver was unlucky to not be given what looked like a very good LBW appeal before Logan was again in the action with an excellent direct hit run out.

The hosts kept up their momentum and despite a scoreboard malfunction which showed a lower target right up until the final over, Thornton scrambled two byes off the very final ball of the game to take the points.

Queensbury are back at home next Wednesday, as they host Low Moor.
