Clayton Celtic 1 - 1 Idle FC
Points Shared in a Slippery, Scrappy
Standoff
Clayton Celtic faced a well-organised Idle FC side on a damp and unpredictable surface following recent downpours. The game began in scrappy fashion, with both sides struggling to find rhythm in the early exchanges.
The deadlock was broken around the half-hour mark thanks to a rare moment of quality. A neat passage of play from Celtic saw Brandon find space in front of goal, and he made no mistake with the finish—slotting home confidently to make it 1-0.
The remainder of the first half offered little in the way of entertainment, with both teams failing to create any meaningful chances.
The second half followed a similar pattern: tight, cagey, and largely uneventful. That was until a contentious free-kick was awarded to Idle FC. The resulting set-piece took a helpful deflection and found its way into the net, levelling the score at 1-1. Celtic will feel hard done by, conceding from what can only be described as a very generous decision.
Then came the moment. Late in the game, Rohan Thomas whipped in a cross that caused chaos in the box—and the ball ended up in the back of the net. Celebrations began… until the referee noticed Matty Parkinson had decided to momentarily channel his inner Diego Maradona. Unfortunately for Clayton, this was less Hand of God and more Hand of a nob. The goal was ruled out and Parkinson was sent off! For aslong as we’re still a club Matthew Parkinson will never wear a Clayton shirt again.
The match finished 1-1, with Celtic left ruing missed opportunities—and moments of madness—as they were forced to settle for a point.
Managers MOTM: Tippsy
Dick of the season: Matthew Parkinson
Thank you to Phillip Wells & Son Refurbishment Projects as usual for his generous sponsorship!

Tough game for the lads in the second game of the season, this time away to Queensbury FC. The game started with a flurry of chances for Clayton but we must of left our shooting boots at home as we converted more tries than scored goals, and this continued right through the game!
Queensbury got a goal in the first half and although the lads kept pushing all game couldn’t find the equaliser and were sucker punched with a late goal coming from a throw in.
Injuries disrupted the play and we huffed and puffed but unfortunately lost the game 2-0.
First home game of the season this week as we take on Rose Atheltic FC at our home pitch of Horsfall Playing Fields 💙🤍
