Muff Field Cricket Club

A little club update, as there’s plenty happening both at the ground and behind the scenes, and it's still only Tuesday!!!

Bookings are open for the Enjoy Cricket camp later this month, and the initial sign up is encouraging. It certainly shows the desire for a junior section is there within the community for boys and girls. Places are limited though so don't delay booking too long!

Steve is currently leading the work on our ECB grant for extensive square and outfield improvements. Fingers crossed we can get everything in place for the end of the season.

Gathering quotes has also left Chris especially, drooling over square cutters that would normally be well outside our budget. They still might be, but we’ll see!

This Friday, the new door and window are being installed in the new umpires’ room. Photos will follow, we promise. The old doorway then needs blocking up, so if anyone knows how to lay a few blocks and wants to crack on with it, please get in touch.

We’re also waiting to hear about several other grant applications, covering a whole range of things from improved security, sustainability - my favourite been an electric composter and accessibility works around the clubhouse. More on those as, when and more importantly if.

There’s still no word on our Sport England application for the new showers, but we’re expecting an answer any day now. I might break my phone constantly refreshing the screen to check!!!

The criteria for all of these are tight and competition is strong, but the worst answer you can get is (usually 😭) no!

Oh, and we’ve had one particularly interesting issue to deal with recently… but it was nothing a nice cup of TEA couldn’t fix 😂

🏏 PHASE TWO IS UNDERWAY! 🏏

The first phase of our Halifax League preparations saw both teams’ changing rooms given a much-needed tidy-up, with a fresh lick of paint, proper clothes hooks and brand-new carpets.

Now phase two has begun, with the old scorebox receiving a smart new roof ahead of its conversion into a dedicated umpires’ room — somewhere comfortable for officials to prepare, change and recover from our appeals! 😂

A huge thank you to Wibsey Roofing for completing the roof and continuing to support the club.

Phase three will focus on installing showers. Exactly how we approach that work will depend on whether our application for a Sport England grant is successful, so there is still plenty of planning and hard work to come on that one.

We’ll keep pushing ahead before October’s meeting, when the other Halifax League clubs will decide whether they like us enough to accept us!
