In other news from yesterday - at the end of our Dan grading event, I was so touched by a special surprise appearance by Sensei Andy Wilshaw (orchestrated in total secrecy by a very cunning cabal of our instructors) to present me with my 5th Dan - which is itself a lovely recognition of how brilliant our students are and how hard they all work. Massive thanks to everyone involved!

Today we had our second Dan grading of the year - totally unheard of for our little club!

Massive congratulations to all of the following:
Matt Faver - now Shodan (1st Dan)
Will Faver - now Shodan (1st Dan)
Kayleigh Cutmore - now Nidan (2nd Dan)
Will Bolton - now Sandan (3rd Dan)

We were all so impressed with the effort, determination and skill that was on show today. Plus a set of incredibly deep and thorough explorations of Bunkai that showed a really deep understanding of a range of Katas.

A huge thank you to Sensei Gareth, Sensei Mike and Sempai Lauren for giving up their Sunday to join me on the grading panel and support and encourage our candidates!

That's a wrap for our Wednesday class for the summer! We usually carry on all the way through but due to works taking place we'll be taking a break until September.

BUT DON'T DESPAIR - our Saturday morning class in Broomfield is still on through most of the summer! We'll be closed on 8 August and 22 August - but every Saturday other than those will be running as normal, starting at 1015am in the luxurious surroundings of Mildmay Sports Hall, Anglia Ruskin University.

It's not very often that a Dan grading comes around - so it was very special and exciting to run one today!

A massive congratulations to those who successfully graded:

Lauren to 1st Dan (Shodan)
Sensei Mike to 3rd Dan (Sandan)
Sensei Gareth to 3rd Dan (Sandan)

You all made it through a very tough 4-hour grading and really brought your A game! It was brilliant to watch you perform at your very best and I'm so proud of you all.

A big thanks to Sensei Will and Sensei Kayleigh for joining me on the grading panel, and to Matt for helping us out with the Kumite section.
