Great things happening at the Club at the moment!

As we move into the next phase of the Club house works with Irthing Vale CC we just want to say a massive thanks to CPM building and joinery for donating chairs and tables to the Club. We operate on a tight budget and it is the support of people like Chris for their continued support, they are a fantastic company. Thanks also to James Ewart for transporting.

Tomorrow’s away match is now at our ground from 2pm, all welcome down..

Really close on player of the match this week with fantastic performances from a number of players, including veteran lead bowler Phil Corrie with 4 wickets and a fantastic caught and bowled, Dev with 3 wickets and runs on the board, opening against a really talented Wigton youngster. But after deliberation, this weeks Player of the Match is Lee Readitt who excelled with ball, bat and in the field, showing a real desire to win (always handy in a competitive match). Lee has returned to Vale and his roots this year after a good many years away and we are delighted to have him back home at Cotehill Park.

Good result for the Vale lads yesterday against a young but energetic Wigton side with some excellent players amongst their ranks. We were very clinical in the field this week with one of our tightest performances of the season and some impressive bowling figures with wickets for Phil (4), Dev (3) and Lee (2) and a superb run out by Ash. Our fourth bowler N**s was on the money and unlucky not to get any victims this week. They say catches win matches and we held on to some good ones this week! With 2 games left in the league season we are just looking to finish in the top half if we can as we continue our rebuild through to next season. Next week we welcome Appleby in a fixture that has been switch to our ground at their request.

A good spirited game away in Penrith yesterday saw the home side victorious.. At one point it looked as it their batting would put on an even bigger figure, but we reigned it in a bit and kept them to a chaseable (albeit fantastic figure). Everyone contributed in the field and then we had probably our best batting game of the season. Unfortunately despite everyone's best efforts we left the chase too long and then shed easy wickets opening up for boundaries. On another day we might have gotten our tactics a little better and taken our first win on the road, but for now we re-group for Dumfries at home in two weeks time. Player of the match goes to Oscar Lyon, bowling out 8 overs of spin on a batters wicket for 2 wickets, taking one caught and bowled and chipped in with a great boundary catch and then adding 24 with the bat, a great effort. Plenty of other good performances though, so we take a bit of momentum and four bonus points forward.

On the road tomorrow at Penrith! The team is locked in.

After a week off, we return to league action on Sunday away at Penrith! 2pm start down at Tynefield Park.

MVP this week goes to Irthing Vale Veteran Alan Matthews! Opening for the first time in as long as anyone can remember, Alan decided to roll back the years and go after the opening bowling with a stylish display of bravado and a carefree attitude which only hints at the rogue he must have been as a young man! On the strength of this and his effort in the field, he narrowly pips Aamir who has too many MVP's anyway ;)

Fun fact, Alan used to play for Raffles before they tidied Raffles up...

Unfortunately we dropped points on Sunday against a solid Lanercost side and an outstanding batting effort by their William McClure. At one stage we had them on the ropes but a last wicket stand added valuable runs and gave them a lead we just couldn't match. Some really good stuff from Irthing Vale, especially some of the catches which were first rate. No game next weekend so hoping we have put in a better performance at Penrith in a fortnight.

A changed Irthing Vale team for today’s derby match with Dev away and Dan still out with a fractured finger. Coming in is our youngster Mickey for his first game of the season and new signing Oscar. 2pm at Lanercost (usual car park out of action).
