If you’re waiting for a spare hour or two to train, it’s easy for the gym to keep slipping down your list.

A focused 30-minute workout can still be a worthwhile session.

The key is to arrive knowing what you’re there to do:

• Choose a few exercises that support your goal.
• Have your workout ready so you spend less time deciding what’s next.
• Take the rest you need between sets, but watch the time spent scrolling on your phone.

If you want to get stronger, focus on a few main lifts and record your weights and reps. If you want to improve your fitness, use your time for a planned cardio session.

Our free gym app has workout plans to help give your sessions some direction.

Build a routine around the time you actually have. Two or three manageable sessions each week are a great starting point.

You don’t need a whole evening free to make time for yourself.

It’s tempting to try something different every time you visit the gym. But changing your whole routine too often can make it harder to see whether you’re improving.

Keeping your main exercises consistent gives you time to build confidence, improve your technique and track your progress.

Instead of always looking for a new exercise, look for a small improvement:

• An extra rep with the same weight.
• Better control throughout the movement.
• A little more weight when you’re ready.

Write down what you do, or use our free gym app to record your workouts, then use it as a starting point for your next session. You won’t improve every single workout, but over time you’ll have a clearer picture of how far you’ve come.

You can still add variety around your main exercises to keep things enjoyable. Just give your plan time to work before deciding it needs changing.

Choose a routine you can stick to, practise it consistently and build from there.

Think about where you are with your training right now.

Now imagine adding another 10–12 weeks of consistent training.

That's potentially 20, 30 or even 40 gym sessions between now and Christmas.

You could be stronger. Fitter. Moving better. More confident in the gym. And considerably further ahead than you are today.

You don't need a perfect training plan or a perfect diet.

You need to start, stay consistent and give yourself enough time for that consistency to add up.

Don't wait until January to start working towards something.

You can’t pick where your body burns fat (no, you can’t just target the belly or thighs), but you can work on building and shaping areas you want to improve.

Glutes, abs, arms – you name it, with consistent training, you can make them stronger, more toned, and exactly how you want them to look.

Every workout you do isn’t just about looking better – it’s about feeling stronger, more confident, and ready to take on whatever life throws at you.

Hit the gym, focus on the areas you want to improve 📈

The gym isn't just about losing weight.

Of course, losing weight can be a goal — and for some people, it’s an important one.

But there are plenty of other reasons to train.

Getting stronger so everyday tasks become easier.

Improving your fitness so you don't feel out of breath walking up the stairs.

Building muscle and maintaining strength as you get older.

Improving your mobility and movement.

Feeling more confident in yourself.

Or simply having somewhere to go that makes you feel better.

Your reason for going to the gym doesn't have to be about the number on the scales.

Find something you want to improve, and work on it.

That's progress.

Ever walked into the gym and felt like you weren't really sure what you were doing?

You jump on the bike for 10 minutes because… well, it's better than doing nothing.

Then you finish your 10 minutes and leave wondering whether you've actually achieved anything.

First of all — that's completely normal.

A lot of people don't know exactly what they should be doing in the gym, or how their workout should change over time.

The important thing is to start with what you're actually trying to achieve.

Want to get fitter?

The bike can be a great place to start.

Do 10 minutes at a set level. Once that becomes easier, increase the duration.

Or, if your goal is to get faster and stronger, increase the resistance or your pace.

Give yourself something to work towards.

Want to build muscle and change the shape of your arms?

You probably don't need to spend your workout on the bike.

You need to train your arms and upper body — and, just as importantly, have a plan for improving.

If you're doing curls with 5kg every time you come into the gym, with no plan to increase the reps, weight or quality of your training, you're not really working towards anything.

Your workout should have a purpose.

It doesn't need to be complicated.

Pick a goal.
Choose exercises that help you achieve it.
Then find ways to gradually improve.

It's completely normal not to know exactly what to do when you first start.

But once you understand what you're trying to achieve, your time in the gym becomes a lot more purposeful.

And if you're not sure where to start, that's exactly where we can help.

Full Body Training Works Best for Most People!

If you train 2–4 times per week, full body workouts are one of the most effective ways to build muscle, drop fat, and stay consistent.

Here’s why they work:

✅ More frequent muscle stimulation = more growth

✅ Balanced volume = better recovery & less joint stress

✅ More calorie burn = improved body composition

✅ Efficient = fits a busy schedule, no wasted effort

Example Full Body Training Week (3 Days):

🟦 Monday

• Trap Bar Deadlift – 4x5

• Incline Barbell Chest Press – 3x6-8

• Bulgarian Split Squat – 3x8/leg

• Pull-Up (assisted if needed) – 3x6-8

• Hanging Leg Raises – 3x10–15

🟧 Wednesday

• Goblet Squat – 3x10

• Dumbbell Push Press – 3x8

• Dumbbell Single Arm Row – 3x8

• Ski Erg Sprints – 6 rounds of 20 seconds

• Cable Reverse Woodchoppers – 3x12/side

⬛ Friday

• Leg Press – 3x12

• Seated DB Shoulder Press – 3x10

• Lat Pulldown – 3x12

• Hamstring Curl – 3x12

• Dumbbell Bicep Curl to Cable Tricep Pressdown Superset – 3x12 each

• Plank Ups – 3x10-12/side

This approach hits all major muscle groups 3x per week, with a mix of strength, muscle building, and conditioning — all while supporting recovery and long-term progress.

Train smarter. Progress faster. Stay consistent.

Everything you need to get started is waiting at Cargill’s Gym.

Getting older is inevitable.

Getting weaker, stiffer and less capable doesn't have to be.

As we age, we naturally lose muscle, strength and mobility. We often start to notice more aches and pains, everyday movements become harder and our body composition changes.

This is where the gym can make a huge difference.

1. BUILD MUSCLE & STRENGTH

Strength isn't just about lifting weights.

It's being able to get off the floor, carry your shopping, climb the stairs, pick something up and stay independent.

Build strength now and you'll have more to maintain as you get older.

2. KEEP YOUR BODY MOVING

Don't just train to look good.

Train to move well.

Squatting, pushing, pulling, carrying, bending and reaching all help you maintain the physical ability to do the things you enjoy.

3. START BEFORE YOU NEED IT

Don't wait until you're struggling with your strength, mobility or aches and pains before doing something about it.

The best time to build a strong, capable body is before you need one.

But if you're already in your 50s or 60s?

There's no better time to start.

You can't stop getting older.

But you can influence how you age.

Train for the body you want to have 10, 20 and 30 years from now.
