I took my kids to a slimming club with me
After having my girls I became obsessed with losing weight. I tried every fad diet going, started on Monday, fu**ed it by Friday, felt guilty and started again
And considering I’d struggled with eating disorders as a teenager and spent years doing CBT to get away from that mindset, there I was again obsessing over pounds on a set of scales.
Taking my two wee girls along with me was the wake up call I needed. I remember thinking what the f**k am I actually teaching them here, kids are influenced so much by their parents and I was certainly not providing them with a good example in that environment.
So I changed it.
I stopped chasing skinny and started chasing strong. I moved more, involved the girls, cooked proper food, learned about nutrition, stopped trying to be perfect and started living by the 80/20 rule.
And slowly my body changed but more importantly my bloody head changed. That’s probably a huge part of why I coach the way I do now.
I don’t want women living on f**k all, terrified of carbs and having their entire week ruined because the scales are up 2lbs. I don’t want kids thinking being obsessed with scales is normal.
Eat your food.
Move your body.
Lift some weights.
Enjoy your life.
Get strong.
Your kids are watching
And I’d much rather mine remember their mum for being a strong and daft old burd than for being under 10 stone
