Bridgend Knights Summer Season FIT Review 2026 🏉⚔️

What an unforgettable summer of FIT touch rugby for the Bridgend Knights! Across all age groups, senior squads, and international stages, our club has showcased incredible skill, resilience, and true community spirit. Below is the complete wrap up of our phenomenal campaigns.

Bridgend Knights Senior Team & Club Success

Our senior section has set the ultimate benchmark this summer, capped off by being crowned 2026 South Wales FIT Touch Rugby League Champions! Going completely unbeaten through the entire league schedule, the squad put on a masterclass of skill and tactical ex*****on. This historic milestone marks only the second time in club history that the Knights have lifted the league trophy.

Driven by an unbeatable club culture, the seniors continue to set the standard for excellence on the pitch while paving the way for the next generation of Knights.

Bridgend Knights Squires U15s

The U15s have enjoyed a stellar, trophy laden season, finishing up by winning the Nailsea Touch Tournament in North Somerset scoring 27 tries and conceding 0, and also being crowned South Wales Cup Champions 2026! After a brilliant Group phase, they fought their way to a tense final against the Young Guns, clinching a brilliant 2-1 victory thanks to some fantastic attack and a rock solid defence. This magnificent win follows their triumph In the first ever U15's Ospreys Touch Cup Champions earlier in the year and coming runners up the league and reaching the final of the Plate In the Adults South Wales FIT League.

Bridgend Knights Squires U12s

In their very first year playing touch rugby the U12s Squires put on an incredible showing to finish as South Wales Cup Finalists 2026, After a fantastic run that included reaching the semi finals of the inaugural Ospreys Touch Cup, they battled through a tough round robin before facing a strong Mini Guns side in the final. Their rapid development and teamwork have been remarkable to watch.

Mini Maidens U12s Girls

As the only all girls team entered into the U12s South Wales Cup tournament, the Mini Maidens played with unbelievable courage, skill, and determination against tough all boys opposition. Their hard work and brilliant win against the South West of England's Saxons boys team propelled them all the way into the U12's Plate Final, where they finished as proud South Wales Cup Plate Finalists. They also took part in the first all girls Cracker tournament hosted by mumbles where they went unbeaten and scored a fantastic 24 tries in 4 games with 9 different try scorers getting on the sheet.

Shield Maidens Women's Team

The Shield Maidens have been a powerhouse of energy and fantastic touch all summer long! Driving the club's vibrant culture, they have put in brilliant shifts week in and week out. Their commitment, teamwork, and competitive flair have not only elevated women's touch rugby across the region but also heavily inspired the younger generation coming through the ranks, embodying the true "One Club, One Family" ethos.

International Representation: Wales Honours 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Bridgend's footprint reached the absolute highest levels of the sport this summer on the international stage. We are immensely proud of our 11 young players and 4 Seniors who earned international selection to represent Wales.

European Youth Touch Championships in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿:

Nine of our Bridgend Knights Youth displayed incredible talent against Europe's elite youth squads.

European Touch Championships (Vichy, France) 🇫🇷:

Flying the flag for the senior section, 4 Bridgend Knights seniors traveled to Vichy to represent Wales at the senior European Championships, showcasing the elite standard of touch fostered right here at our club.

Our Bridgend Knights U15's Squires have rounded off an incredible summer with a fantastic tournament win at today’s Touch tournament in Nailsea !🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

The Squires were simply outstanding, finishing the day with an amazing 27 tries scored and not conceding a single try all day! 🔥

The character, drive, passion and commitment shown by this group of young players throughout the season has been nothing short of exceptional. They have continually pushed themselves, supported each other and represented the Knights badge with immense pride.

Well done to Oliver Holman who was voted our teams MVP today by the officials! 🏅

To see so many of these young Squires progress and earn representative honours has been fantastic, and it is a testament to the hard work they have put in throughout the season.

A massive thank you to the tournament organisers in Nailsea for putting on another fantastic event and giving the young players the opportunity to compete, enjoy themselves and showcase their skills.

We also want to say a huge thank you to all our parents for their incredible support throughout the season from the travelling, cheering from the sidelines and everything you do behind the scenes. Your support means so much to the players and coaches.

And finally, to our young Squires themselves thank you for the effort you put in every single week. Learning new moves, working on your skills, listening to your coaches, challenging yourselves and, most importantly, working together as a team. Your commitment and willingness to learn has been exceptional.

We couldn't be prouder of this group. The future is incredibly exciting, and we can't wait to see what these young lads go on to achieve in the coming years.

Bridgend Knights Squires Under 15s: The Last Dance in North Somerset! 🏆🔰⚔️

This weekend, our phenomenal Bridgend Knights Squires U15s squad crosses the bridge into North Somerset to take part in the Nailsea Touch Junior Tournament 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 , marking the ultimate "last dance" of an incredible summer season!

Having already claimed both the 🦅 Ospreys Cup 🏆 and the South Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Touch Cup 🏆 earlier this summer, this hardworking group of boys is ready for one final challenge on the road. As a coaching group, we couldn't be prouder of how much they have developed over the past few months. Their commitment, teamwork, and skills have grown immensely, and we truly can't wait to see where they are this time next year!

A tournament like this is a great way to end the summer season and a stellar campaign. Huge credit goes to the players for their dedication all summer long, to the families and supporters who travel up and down the country to cheer them on, and to everyone who continues to drive junior touch rugby forward in our region.

What a brilliant day for our Mini Maidens at the Crackers Girls Touch Competition a fantastic event celebrating and promoting girls in rugby! 🙌

The girls were outstanding all day, showing just how much they’ve grown as a team this season. Great communication, organised defence, confident handling in tricky conditions and some brilliant attacking rugby all topped off with fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship. 👏

The final game was a brilliant example of the girls’ character. After Elite Guns fought back to make it 3–2, the Mini Maidens stayed composed, kept working for each other and pushed on to finish 7–2. 💪

24 tries. 8 different try scorers. Loads of teamwork. Even more smiles.

The results were great, but seeing the girls play with confidence, support each other and keep the spirit of the game at the heart of everything was even better.

A very proud day for the Mini Maidens in their very first summer season of touch rugby !

What an evening of touch rugby! Three games, plenty of tries, some seriously competitive rugby and a great atmosphere throughout as we welcomed Brackla Magpies to Bridgend.

🛡️ WOMEN’S GAME

SHIELD MAIDENS 7️⃣ – 0️⃣ BRACKLA MAGPIES

The Shield Maidens got the evening underway with a brilliant performance.

From the opening whistle, the game was played at a serious pace fast flowing rugby with intensity from start to finish.

Defensively, the Maidens were on form once again. Another clean sheet showed just how hard the team worked for one another, with excellent communication and organisation across the field.

In attack, the 3 man drive was super quick and really effective, giving us a fantastic platform to play from and allowing us to keep the pressure on Brackla.

Next up, the men took to the field — and this one was an absolute battle!

A really close encounter with both teams going at it from start to finish. The intensity was high, the rugby was competitive and there were some superb tries on display.

With very little separating the two sides, tempers even flared on the odd occasion 😅🔥 but that's what happens when two competitive teams desperately want the win!

The Knights eventually edged a brilliant contest 3–2 to take the victory. ⚔️

Last up was the mixed game and continuing the theme of the evening, this was another seriously close one!

Both teams traded tries in a fast, competitive game that went right down to the wire.

With absolutely nothing between the sides, the Knights & Shield Maidens managed to get themselves over the line and take a brilliant 6–5 victory! 🔰⚔️

🏆 Bridgend Knights Squires – South Wales Cup Champions 2026!

What an absolute phenomenal day of touch rugby! We want to say a massive thank you to all the teams who played. Every single game across the tournament was incredibly competitive, played with fantastic spirit, and showcased the very best of youth touch rugby.

Our Bridgend Knights Squires Boys 15's played amazing as a team all day long. After a brilliant round robin campaign, they fought their way to a hard fought showdown against a fantastic Young Guns side in the final, showing incredible teamwork to clinch a brilliant 2-1 victory and take home the South Wales Cup!

Two fantastic Tries in the final for our Knights.

Try 1 = A great transition saw a scoop from Harri Williams who gave a good pass to Ashton Molino he drifted right and gave an out the back door pass left to Jake Thomas who fixed his man perfectly before Charlie Hickin finished well in the corner. ( Some Fiji Sevens skills on show for that try)

Try 2 = Started with a great drive from Riley Thomas and Oliver Thomas and a brilliant Qu**ky with Callum Brown who produced a great M1 pass to put Dylan in who ran a great hole.

🏉 Our defence was brilliant all day and it's something we've working on a lot in training but Our attack was firing on all cylinders, with brilliant distribution and finishing from across the squad.

A funny moment from the tournament 😂

Harri Williams made a great break from a good drive with fancy footwork he stepped three lougher players in and out before heading to the touch line by which time Afa Lewis had had enough and pushed him into next week, well the next pitch actually.
