Girl of the Game & Parents Player

Very rare this happens but when it does you know its special, IRB6 deservedly claiming both awards today 👏⭐🔥

Some great performances in the team but IRB6 was next level today, some great battles in the midfield and driving the team forward, key to our attacks and getting us playing, with the game locked at 1 each we needed something special and she duly delivered with a stunning hat-trick that tipped the game in our favour. Three superb finishes and the stand out player on the pitch by some distance 👌

Lye Town 4 - 1 Gornal DC Jaguars

With the Black Country Derby dominating the fixtures this weekend we faced our own one as Gornal DC travelled to us for our second game of the season.

Looking to build on last weeks victory it was a bright start for The Flyers when ILF4 struck the bar early on and the rebound was well defended,the first goal arrived soon after when BIQ23 adjusted well to turn in an ILF4 cross from the right ⚽

The visitors struck the bar with a well taken free kick and ARJ1 produced a smart save as Gornal grew into the game.

Some neat link up play down the right with ILF4, RS9 and IRB6 was very pleasing on the eye, the three linked well and almost produced a second goal but KM77's shot came back off the post.

Just one goal in it at the break and all to play for in the 2nd half, it was the visitors who started brightly and the pressure paid off when following a long throw the ball was fired in at the back post.

Any hopes Gornal had of building on this were extinguished, IRB6 the chief tormentor, firstly with a fine finish from the edge of the box to restore the lead, her 2nd and Lye's third, a fine jinking run from deep with a classy finish beyond the keeper. There was still time for a hat-trick with a well placed effort from distance that put the result beyond doubt. ⚽⚽⚽

Another excellent game that swung both ways, Gornal certainly played their part but it was Lye who triumphed to make it two wins from two.

Lye Town 6 - 1 Cradley Town

After what felt like the longest close season ever the day finally arrived to start the season, new league, new team, new kit, new ground we were all set to go 💪

Cradley were the visitors at our new home, Thorns Collegiate Academy. The game kicked off and we were underway in the 26/27 season, both teams looking to start well, Lye struck first, EP7 winning the ball and linking well with KM77 and BIQ23 applied the finish for a perfect start ⚽

An end to end half with both sides looking dangerous, ARJ1 produced a fine save as Cradley pushed while up the other end KM77 tested the keeper from distance.

A second goal arrived a few minutes before the break when BIQ23's cross was turned past her own keeper by a defender ⚽. Right on the stroke of half time Cradley almost pulled one back but a superb last ditch tackle from KBP12 denied them.

After the break Cradley attacked from the off and again some top defending and goalkeeping kept them out, a lightning quick break starting with ARJ1 produced the third goal, ILF4 applying the finish from just inside the box ⚽ 3 became 4 when a quick set piece caught Cradley asleep and KM77's effort found the far corner ⚽ it was raining goals as IRB6 struck another from distance ⚽.

Still chances came at both ends and Cradley got themselves on the scoresheet with a neat finish from close range ⚽. Not to be outdone Lye grabbed another at the end when RS9 scored from the spot after being fouled ⚽

A really strong performance to start the season and good to start with a big three points. We will continue to work hard and prepare for our next game 💙🦅⚽
