Want to deadlift well? Start with the hinge. 🍑
I've posted about this before, but one of my favourite ways to teach it? The humble pole. 👌
It gives you really simple feedback.
Head, upper back and sacrum stay in contact with the pole as you hinge at the hips, sending the bum backwards.
What should you feel?
- Hamstrings loading and stretching as the hips travel back
- Glutes working to bring you back to standing
- Core staying controlled rather than collapsing
- Weight staying balanced through the whole foot, rather than shifting onto the toes
The pole isn't there to keep the entire back flat against it. There should naturally be a small gap around the lower back.
And Claire is absolutely nailing it here. 👏
Get the hinge right. Then we add the weight. 💪
Don't worry if the hinge doesn't feel natural straight away, that's completely normal. We're asking your body to learn a new movement pattern - where the hips move. It takes practice, good feedback and a bit of patience. That's what coaching is for. 😉

Lots of us missing from this photo, but here’s a little sample of the Hove Fitness Club Personal Training crew 🫶
A great mix of personalities, training styles and specialisms - with a shared love of making people do things they’d rather not do. 😏
We're a friendly bunch.......come and say hi 👋

First ever Deadly Dozen race and SO much fun! 🔥
Definitely harder than it looks though… and racing in the midday heat did us absolutely no favours 🥵
Oatopia and I racing together for the first time and coming 1st in our age group with a pretty respectable time for a couple of old birds! 🏆♥️
We got some bling AND a patch for competing .... honestly what's not to like (except no flag for winning our age group, in fact nothing which was rude 🤣)
Loved having the Hove Fitness Club gang there too -singles, doubles and relay teams, with some brilliant results across the board. 💪
But best of all… my Dad James Mitchell came to cheer me on and was THE best support. ❤️
Proper adult Sports Day 😂🏃♀️🏆

From recurring hamstring problems and feeling stuck... to running strong, feeling strong, and enjoying training again. This is Jinny • Jin Designs • Homeware & Gifts story ❤️
We didn’t just focus on the hamstring - we looked at the bigger picture and built a stronger, more resilient body.
These are the transformations I’m most proud of and this is exactly why I love what I do.
How we got here 👇
✔️ A thorough assessment looking at training, nutrition and recovery - not just the injury
✔️ A progressive strength plan to support her return to running and build resilience
✔️ More confidence in the gym and understanding why she was doing each exercise
✔️ Rebuilt strength, running performance and consistency
And now? We’re taking on HYROX together 🖤 so the pressure's on....I'd quite like us to both make it to the start line in one piece 😂
There’s never a guarantee you’ll stay injury-free, but getting stronger, moving well and training intelligently gives you the best chance of continuing to do the things you love.
A side note on the photo ... the weight isn't the story here (Jinny is super strong!). This exercise was exactly what she needed at this stage, good programming is about matching the exercise and load to the goal, not always chasing numbers.

98 today!!!!
Today's star of the show is the fabulous Mary, celebrating an incredible 98th birthday.... sharper than most of us put together and an absolute legend.
Cake not planks today for Mary!

Hyrox World Champs - Stockholm photo dump 🇸🇪 with Maria 🩷
Came for the HYROX World Championships.
Stayed for the cinnamon buns, ABBA museum, sunshine, and 18 hours of daylight.
Not our best race.
Not our best day.
But representing ourselves on the World Champs, learning a few lessons, and making memories with great people isn't something we'll forget anytime soon.
What a weekend with the best crew from Hove Fitness Club . 🏆✨

Three coaches.
Three different personalities.
Three different coaching styles. ✨🖤
One thing I love about working in this industry is that no two coaches are the same. We all bring something different to the table, and that's how it should be.
There's plenty of room for all of us.
While our coaching styles might be completely different, I feel lucky to work alongside
good humans like these two. ❤️
Women supporting women.
Coaches supporting coaches.
Thanks to for the great photo
