Well it's time to dust off those jigs, hone our skills and warm up with some small squid action inshore before the big ones arrive Offshore in the next couple of weeks.
Cuttle aplenty out there currently, two a drop and whilst great if you want them they are absolutely hammering baits intended for Turbot! If it wasn't the Cuttle it was the Greater Weaver (an often underestimated high quality table fish) which wer also abundant. Add to the catch list Po***ck, Bream, Bass, Wrasse, John Dory, Mackerwl, Scad, Tub Gurnard and the ubiquitous pouting it was long species hunt of a day and quite concerning on the Turbot & Brill front.
Back to the Squid - we have 2 inshore trips planned;
Saturday 7th 3pm - 7pm
Tuesday 10th (night trip) 6pm - 10pm
Big stable boat, heated wheelhouse, weather canopy to shelter from the elements, flaked ice to keep your catch Sashimi quality, toilet, microwave, hot water for a cuppa, coded for night operations, a licence to roam as far as needed to get the best Squid, all equipment provided .......and we have lights 🚦!!
With all that it would understandabke if you thought that it would be more expensive than boats that do not have any of the above - you would however be WRONG!
We want to make this accessible to as many anglers as possible so it's actually significantly cheaper at £40pp and if there is the appetite we will be loading additional trips in September & October before we head Offhsore for the big ones.
To book on one of these Squid trips please contact Karl on 07858 119490

The quest to catch the first Sussex Bluefin Tuna continues!
2 trips under our belt with two fantastic crews and a wonderful support team
Trip #1
We welcomed Dan from Better Days charters out of Ramsgate (if you like your Bass fishing give Dan a call) for our maiden trip.
Reliable sightings of BFT off to our West and reports from BFT boats in the SW that the Tuna are the farthest East that they have seen them at this time of year meant that we were in with a chance so we headed West. Very little activity once we reached the fishing grounds and very poor water colour resulted in us moving fairly quickly to better colour and in search of some bird life. Very quiet as we worked our way back Eastward and other than the fantastic company and opportunity to test all aspects of the gear (which ran beautifully) a quiet but very enjoyable day.
Trip #2
Welcomed Adam and Louis aboard. Adam fishes with us regularly, very competent angler and great guy to share time with as was Louis.
Hatched a plan to fish an area where we saw plenty of BFT activity last year. Almost always good water in that area and although a little farther East we didn't want another 80nm run into bad water.
A beautiful Sunrise, lovely sea conditions, gear working perfectly but once again very little activity. Having worked over one area for a few hours we upped gear and relocates 15nm further West. Again great quality of water, occasional glimpses of bird activity but nothing to get excited about until we approached slack....... when it really kicked off! One shout of birds working quickly followed by multiple fish leaping clear out of the water and it was clear there was hunt going on. Turned the boat toward the chaos with everyone onbaord full of excitement only to discover a very large pod of dolphins smashing a very dense bait ball with Gannets picking off fish pushed to the surface. With great water quality, birds working hard, Dolphins corralling bait even though we hadn't seen a Tuna all the other ingredients were there so we worked around that area for 30 minutes until it all went quiet.
Sea state began to deteriorate so we headed for home with more knowledge in the bank and the belief that it's a case of when not if we get hooked with one of the those monster Tuna.
Lots of people to thank for getting us to the position where we can target these fish, including Steve Murphy and all CHART skippers (in particular Jerry Rogers) who have done such a magnificent, professional job in paving the way for the C&R recreational fishery, Viv Shears, Peter from Leadertec, Chris Gill Gill Mark Wright& Steve Batchelor for supplying first class equipment - Jason, Karl Pope & Peter Stotesbury for providing excellent crew support and knowledge - plus a whole host of others - thank you all for giving over your time, knowledge and experience; all very much appreciated 👍
We will be listing additional Tuna dates in the coming days and will be sticking to our current arrangement to only cover operating costs for the day of £400 for a 10hr trip Whole boat booking taking a maximum of 4 anglers. We will manintin that rate until we have boats Bluefin Tuna so if you have a sense of adventure and want a crack at being the fist angler to boat a Sussex Bluefin Tuna keep an eye on upcoming dates.

A 4am post because that is just about the only time we have to do it - we have been super-busy!
Offhsore wrecking yesterday and a pleasure to welcome father & Son Mark & Alex who travelled down to us from glorious N.Wales in search of Cod & Po***ck, they were not disappointed and really pleased to see them heading back home with both after a beautiful day at sea. The fishing machine which is Simon Clark was also with us and landed Cod, Po***ck and Bass ...... nothing new there!
Fantastic to see the offshore wreck fishing remaining so consistent this late.
A well needed break for us coming up with some family & friends time planned - just need to get through the next couple of days which consist of 1 Offshore trip and 5 inshore trips. Busy is good, manic not so good!
Best wishes
