FINAL BUSINESS UPDATE :(

Some sad news from us, unfortunately we are officially closing on the 24th. I am sure to all of our lovely customer’s reading this that this might seem quite sudden, but the decision is something that has been weighing on our minds for some time now.

As I am sure a lot of have you seen the bike industry is facing an unprecedented challenge at the moment, one that this week has already closed one of the UK’s largest trade distributors. Between the ongoing stock shortages that have never recovered, rising cost of living and the business’s running costs all increasing we have decided to close while Jay’s Cycles is still successful, rather than running us and the service we offer into the ground!

We knew throughout the last year that the business, now three years in age, was rapidly approaching a point where it needed to take a massive step forward or unfortunately close. We have explored a vast number of options, but with the current economy and state of the bicycle industry we simply could not justify the scale of the risk.

This has been an incredibly hard decision to make, we will miss being an integral part of our local cycling community and would like to thank everyone for their custom over the years, as well as all of the support for our numerous charity drives.

Any customer’s who have bikes with us, or who are booked in next week will have their services completed to the same high standard’s we have always maintained, but unfortunately we will not be accepting any drop-ins or additional bookings.

WHAT’S NEXT?

So prior to Jay’s Cycles I worked in the world of technical writing and have accepted a new role at one of the UK’s leading technical marketing agencies. The good news is that we should have a lot more free time, so to all of you who have been asking us out on rides the past three years, we will finally be able to come along!

A few pictures from our fantastic Santa run this weekend! A tad cold but it was at least sunny and for a fantastic charity. 🎄🎅

Considering a new bike for Christmas? 🎄🎅 We do hassle free bike builds for just £35, ensuring you have absolutely no disappointment on the 25th! This service allows the best of both worlds, simply order a new bike online in one of the many fantastic sales available at the moment and have it built to highest standards by us.

While many online bike shops sell their bikes as 'ready out of the box' this is never really the cas. Take this Vitus pictured, it came out of the box with a leaking real brake and several components missing, all of this has been rectified and the bike is now ready to go to its new home 😎 If you need a new bike build contact us now, collections and drop offs are also available with full details of the service below:

- Full torque check of all fixings
- Full setup from scratch of both shifters and brakes
- Running in of the brakes to ensure perfect brake for your first ride
- Application of the correct chain l**e for the winter
- Setting up of any suspension to the rider's weight and ability
- Fitting of any accessories
- Setting of the handlebar and saddle position to the rider
- Full test ride to ensure all components are settled
- Any relevant preventative fixes are applied (for example many clutched derailleurs are under greased from new)

Ride a hardtail or full suspension MTB? Putting it away for the winter or riding a bit less than usual? Well it is the perfect time to get your suspension serviced, and now you don't even have to live close to our workshop as we are accepting postal deliveries! Simply package up your shock or fork, send it to us and then we will service the component and send it back, all within a couple of days!

We service a wide range of shocks and forks from Fox, Ohlins, Rockshox, DVO, X-Fusion, SR Suntour and more! Prices start from £105.00, with custom tuning, components sales and upgrades available too.

And with many suspension components having major service intervals of 200 hours or less, servicing is important to ensure both maximum performance and safety. Sluggish performances and noisy dampers are just a few of the issues that are fixed as part of a full service! There is a good chance that if your bike is over two years old the suspension is due a service so contact us now to get it booked in 😊👍

Did you know we also repair e-scooters? This one arrived non-functional and less than 48 hours later it is working again as good as new! 😀🛴

We are forgoing our bikes and running a massive 2.5k with just our legs(!) for the Santa Dash on the 10th of December. The team will be Jamie, Alice and a guest star all the way from Sweden; Denise! We are hoping to go above and beyond the recommended minimum contribution of £60 for three people, so any contributions are greatly appreciated and will go straight to the Rockinghorse Childrens Charity. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🎅🎠

Another awesome retro restoration, this time for a 1998 US made Specialized Stumpjumper 😎 After a full overhaul this one is now riding as great as it looks, and just in time for some nicer weather (at last!!!) ☀ If you've got a bike that needs some love, no matter if it is a smal job or full overhaul get in touch now! 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Another awesome strip and rebuild through the workshop 💪🎃 This high spec pre-loved Vitus was recently purchased by its current owner and brought to us. After being maticulously taken back to just the frame, then cleaned and reassembled with new parts where needed, it is now looking and riding like new, perhapse even better?! 🦇🦇🦇

It's that time again, we now have a wide range of fantastic used bikes back from the grave and ready to go! 👻🎃 Our spooky sale includes a wide range of bicycles all carefully overhauled, offering an environmentally and cost effective alternative to a new bicycle. Just a quick update from us, we haven't had to do this for a while but effectively immediately we will be increaseing all of our prices bar puncture repairs which will remain £10. The increases have been kept as small as possible but as with everything right now our running costs, as well as the costs of the various oils, lubricants and parts that are consumed day to day, have all increased. In terms of our services nothing has changed so you will still be getting the absolute best bicycle service possible, ensuring your bike looks and rides like new 😀🚲

As for something a bit more fun, here are some pictures of a rather lovely Specialized Stumpjumper which has just gone through a complete rebuild. Not wanting to compromise on quality this rebuild even included a new-old-stock 9-speed Deore XT cassette and chainrings which were quite the task to find!
