Most beginners go to the gym without a plan or understanding the real reason they are there. What they want to work on, what they like (or what they donât like).
When everything feels unfamiliar and confusing, âjust going moreâ doesnât always work, because going more with the same sporadic plan isnât going to create confidence but probably more confusion.
What worked for Imogen was simplifying what she was already trying to do, helping her understand what was working and what wasnât. And more importantly, getting her to enjoy what she was doing rather than dreading every session.
Within weeks...
She wasnât overthinking every set
She was just...training as if it was nothing.
Now she walks into the weights area without second guessing whether she should be there or not.
If the gym still feels intimidating or confusing, even though youâve been going for ages. DM me âGYMâ and we can break it down together â¨

Youâre not struggling because youâre not doing enough, youâre struggling because youâre probably doing too much inconsistently.
Learning requires repetition and if youâre not repeating the same thing, your brain and body will never understand what itâs doing.
Giving yourself too much choice is leading to decision fatigue which can lead to avoidance and inconsistency.
Doing exercises youâre familiar with builds competence which then builds confidence.
Doing the same 2 or 3 sessions per week will let you feel more comfortable with what youâre already doing which removes pressure and creates a clear win!

Most women delay starting the gym because they feel like the need to be more confident, more fit or just know more before they start.
But thatâs probably why they stay stuck in the same place.
My job as a personal trainer isnât just to give you exercises⌠itâs to help you understand what youâre doing and why, help you build confidence and to help you actually feel comfortable in the gym.

If you feel like youâre not progressing in the gym, this is probably why.
Most beginners think progress means lifting heavier weights every week
So when they canât lift more, they assume:
â theyâre weak
â theyâre doing something wrong
â or the gym âjust isnât for themâ
But thatâs not actually the problem.
The problem is how youâre measuring progress.
Because real progression isnât just about adding more weight...
It looks like:
â more reps with the same weight
â Moving with more control (instead of rushing everything)
â Improving your range of motion
â feeling more stable and confident in what youâre doing
Thatâs what builds strength, not just chasing numbers for the sake of it.
This is where a lot of people get stuck.
They skip the foundations, try to jump ahead, and then feel like nothingâs working.
If your workouts feel inconsistent, confusing, or like youâre always second-guessing yourselfâŚ
Itâs usually because you donât have a clear structure to follow.
And once you fix that, everything starts to make sense.
DM me âPROGRESSâ and Iâll send you a simple way to structure your workouts so you actually know how to improve each week.

One of the biggest reasons people struggle to feel confident in the gym isnât motivation.
Itâs lack of structure.
When you donât have a clear plan, everything feels uncertain:
- You second guess your exercise choices
- You donât know if youâre progressing
- You feel like youâre just âdoing stuffâ
And thatâs exhausting.
But structure doesnât need to be complicated.
In fact, the more beginner you are, the simpler it should be.
Good structure gives you:
- clarity on what to do
- confidence in what youâre doing
- a way to actually see progress
And most importantlyâŚ
It removes that constant mental noise of:
âAm I doing this right?â
If your current workouts feel random or inconsistent, donât try to do more.
Simplify it, repeat it, and understand what youâre trying to do.
Thatâs where confidence starts.
Save this for your next gym session
