Has anyone else been able to get out and about today to enjoy the snow? Here’s what Hengrove Park looked like early this morning ☃️

As you know, last week we took the difficult decision to permanently suspend all Great Run Local events.
Following discussions with the event coordinator, they have indicated a desire to continue this local running community under a new name.

To support their plans we will be handing over the administration of this page to the local coordinator – you will notice some changes to this page over the coming days during the transition.

We are truly sorry to bring this popular series to a close, but we know we are leaving you in the hands of dedicated group leaders who are passionate about supporting running and physical activity in their local community.

We wish you all the very best with your running in the days and months ahead, and we hope to see you on a Great Run start line in the years to come.

🥇 ACHEIVEMENT CLAXON 🥇
Many of you may be aware that a popular running app (Strava) has just had another crown added to it’s collection; the ‘Local Legends’ crown. You can get this crown by running on a segment the most in the last 90 days. We’ve become aware that we have a runner who is very much in the lead for this crown!

GENA FRANCKE has ran the loop 38 times, which by our calculations is the equivalent of running our 5km loop every every! Well done with your commitment to getting out there and enjoying Hengrove Park. 👑

We‘re still not sure when we’ll be able to get out there and run as a group, but we‘re looking forward to when we can!

Great Bristol Half Marathon 01/07/2020

⚠️ Important event update:

The COVID-19 outbreak means we need to cancel the on 27th September.

We haven’t taken this decision lightly. Over the past few months, we’ve worked hard, and in close consultation with our medical teams, local authorities and key partners to try and find a way to run the Great Bristol Half Marathon which both observes social distancing rules, and, crucially, doesn’t impact on our local NHS.

But, as things stand, and even as the situation improves, it isn’t going to be possible to meet these goals with any certainty, and so, with just under three months to go we have concluded that the best course of action is to cancel. We know how disappointing this is, but we’re sure everyone will understand why this decision has been made.

All entrants will have the option to roll their entry over to the next Great Bristol Half Marathon (scheduled to take place on 19th Sept 2021) or claim a refund of their entry fee, and will shortly receive an email confirming the next steps.

We hope everybody stays fit and positive and we hope to see you on a Great Run start line in 2021. We are back in Bristol for the Great Bristol 10k, scheduled for 9th May 2021, reminder service is now open. Go to www.greatrun.org/bristol10k for more details.

Thank you for your patience and continued support at this challenging time. Full statement: http://grtrun.org/bristolhm

⚠️ Important Great North Run update:

Today, we confirm the cancellation of the 2020 Great North Run and Junior & Mini Great North Run. The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic mean it isn’t possible to stage the event as planned this year.

We haven’t taken this decision lightly. The Great North Run raises over £25m for charity, and is an important day in the North East calendar. Over the past few months, we’ve worked hard, and in close consultation with our medical teams, local authorities and key partners to try and find a way to run the Great North Run which both observes social distancing rules, and, crucially, doesn’t impact on our local NHS. We have also looked at holding the Great North Run later in the year. But, as things stand, and even as the situation improves, it isn’t going to be possible to meet these goals with any certainty, and so, with just under three months to go we have concluded that the best course of action is to cancel.

We know how disappointing this is, but we’re sure everyone will understand why this decision has been made. The 40th Great North Run is now scheduled to take place on 12 September 2021, and we'd love you to be part of it.

All ballot entrants and members will have the option to roll their place into the next Great North Run, currently scheduled to take place on 12th September 2021, or claim a refund of their entry fee. Entrants will shortly receive an email confirming the next steps.

The Great North Run weekend is only part of the challenge and experience. Some of you will already have put in many miles towards your training and others will have charity fundraising goals. So, we are working on some big plans to mark the occasion. We will start to share these with you in the next few days, so please watch this space!

In the meantime, we’d like to thank our partners at Newcastle, Gateshead and South Tyneside Councils, and especially our medical teams working in North East NHS Trusts for their support in trying to find a way to stage the Great North Run this year.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
